Work was pretty slow tonight so I decided to skim through some shitty magazines on the rack. Three of them had Heath Ledger on the cover. I'm sure you've all been fed the news of his death in heavy doses lately; I know I have. While I was paging through a crappy edition of People magazine from a month ago, I stopped on the "worst dressed" list. Sure enough, there he was, Heath Ledger in a strange outfit on the red carpet. They added a snide little comment in for a kick on the bottom of the image. It's interesting to me how in our society death equals respect. Heath Ledger wasn't anything special before, but now that he's dead, we're suddenly hearing all about how good of a father and an actor he was. Suddenly he's a hero. We live in a world in which the only way to be truly loved is to die. It's ing sickening. Kurt Cobain was an amazing artist, but no one idolized him the way they do now until they saw the headlines in the paper. There's Kennedy, theres Marilyn, Tupac, Dimebag...the list goes on and on. Why can't we love people while they're still alive? Society paints a ing picture in the minds of children that if they die, whether it's self inflicted or accidental, they will recieve instant fame. The only thing the kids at columbine wanted was to be recognized and remembered. That day they were on the cover of every newspaper and every t.v. station accross the nation. Maybe I'm crazy, but I beleive we should love everyone until they die, not when they die.

The media was poking fun at these people while alive, now praising them when they're gone. What more do you need to know? It's like if you pushed around a kid on crutches your whole life, then he died tragically, and you were like "Oh, ...".

People praised Benoit when he was alive and now their poking fun at/bashing him. Actually, that's true, but it's because he murdered somebody. Kinda changes things a little. I actually still continue to praise Benoit, just for his outstanding in-ring work, and all the years of dedication people seem to forget about. *looks at picture*...Also, I can see unoriginal intellectually- disabled person #2390852435 has made it into this post.

I agree, though I do think Abraham Lincoln really was awesome and he's dead. But othern than him, you have a point.

I think it has something to do with most people's fear of death, and this notion that we should respect everyone who has died. I don't believe in disrespecting the dead, but I also don't believe in loving someone that I didn't just because they died. I feel for Heath and his family. It's very sad that he died at such a young age, with a young child, and a decent career in acting going for him... but I won't be shedding any tears or writing poetry over this whole thing.

media don't like to disrespect the dead so they only focus on the good points of people. When they're alive however it's open season, I find it disgraceful like what the media does to Britney Spears, if she died tomorrow the media would focus on the fact that she was a popular singer and not on the fact that she used a public restroom which seemed to be the main news on E! up until Ledger died. If in general someone good dies you should always think of the good points but if they're alive you can poke a bit of fun at them because it's not like they can't give give a witty comeback if they're alive. I try to see the good points in everyone and I respect anyone who seems good natured and I also think it's always better to just not talk about the dead and let them rest in peace.
Also an example of people not always holding dead people in the highest regards is Princess Diana who's had many allegations made against her since her death.

Maybe because Bri Guy is a douche, idk. But that was funny. Pat yourself on the back.

Somebody did say something about Britney Spears, and I would like to acknowledge that, and bring up something I thought about today. Nobody's getting it worse than Britney. NOBODY. She's getting ed with from all directions. And if this keeps up, she most likely will commit suicide. And when she does, all these ers will realize just how horrid they were, and many will put out heartfelt apologies, while "remembering the good times". I don't want to see any of that craphappen, 'cause honestly, I though Britney was a pretty good person, who didn't really with anybody. She just made a LOT of bad choices.

to the guy who posted the emo pic get over it- we are all emo we all have and display emotion I find that emos are like gay people, they all know they are, but they don't want to admit it. Also, they seek respect from people when they know they were put here to be ridiculed. Anyway, enough of that right wing crap, i think it's true that if Kurt was alive today nobody would know who he was, the grunge genre was just a passing phase and would have been eclipsed by something else had it not ended so abruptly. Diebag is a classic example. All these kids have Diebag patches on their bags and stuff, just as a fashion statement. Pantera were ok but people make him out to be something amazing when he wasn't. When he died he wasn't even in the spotlight anymore as Pantera had split.

that makes me think a little bit, what will my old friends, new friends, and family say when i die? i hope everyone likes me........... so NO ONE will make fun of me or laugh at me when im dead. or make something up like i hung myself or something like that and i didnt.... If i go to heaven i will make everyone live in pain that laughed at me or made fun of me in my casket for the rest of my heaven life and there earth life, i will make them live in PAIN
