I know I just made a thread a few days ago about my dog, but I need help. She got surgery on Monday, and has a cast on, but she keeps pulling the cast down, and exposing the incision, and whenever we try and pull the cast/bandage back over it, she growls at us and tries to bite us. So, any idea's on what we should do?

She needs an e-collar. Taking her to the vet to have it re-bandaged probably wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Yeah, as goofy as it looks, if your dog won't leave it's bandages/wounds alone, it needs one of those. And if the dog is snapping at you when you go towards the wound, you need a muzzle.

Yeah, we're gonna take her tomorrow to the vet to get it re bandaged and we are probably gonna get one of those too. And she doesn't need a muzzle, she's just in pain and doesn't really wanna be bothered. She normally doesn't do that, because if you go to pet her, she only growls and stuff when you go near the incision.

Anyways, I'm surprised you weren't told to put an e-collar on her in the first place. When I discharge a surgery patient, I always recommend one. If the patient isn't going to bother the site, fine, but most animals aren't happy about having their leg wrapped and such, so more often than not, it's essential. I had an owner who refused to use one at first. His dog was nearly healed and sutures were just about ready to come out when the dog chewed through the bandage and tore the sutures out, completely re-exposing the wound. Then you're back at square one.

They actually didn't give her one, because she wasn't chewing at it the night she stayed at the vet, and they weren't too worried about it because she wasn't really showing any signs of wanting to chew through it.

But what about your dog sliding the cast down? Aren't they concerned about that?
