Hey guys, My dad really wants an HDTV for Xmas. I have been shopping and shopping and I think I found a good deal. We right now have some Panosonic old TV... its huge (like.. bulky) and its not a flat screen or anything. Its a 42 inch I believe. I was at Best Buy looking at 42 inch HDs and they look somewhat bigger then our TV at home. Is there a difference on the way they measure HD TVs to regular ones? Cause this one I was looking at looks HUGE compared to the one we have now. Anyways.. Best Buy has a deal you get... 42 Inch 1080p LCD HDTV (LG Brand) TV 1080p Upconvert DVD Player (LG Brand) Hassle Free set up by the Geek Squad All for 1599.98 www.bestbuy.com/site//olspage.jsp?id=pcmcat138200050004&type=categoryThats the deal im talking about^ Could I get some opinions on if thats good or not? I mean other then this deal I saw a Phillips 47 inch for 2 grand but I think this deal is way better but I have NO idea how good LG HDTVs are. www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8303427&type=product&productCategoryId=cat15004&id=1172882141819Thats the Philips^ Any input would be great as the sale ends on Friday so I would have to hurry up to get it. Thanks

I'm not an HDTV expert, but, just from contrast ratio, the LG is better.

I've actually heard good things about LG, but I can't say from experience. Sounds like a good deal. The reason they might look bigger is if they are 16:9 aspect ratio vs. 4:3 aspect ratio. I think all TVs are measured diagonally.

If you have a Costco, you can buy a 42 inch 1080p LCD Vizio for $1099. That's what I have and I love it!

Geek squad setup is a waste of money everything is color coded. A dog could figure it out.

I think all TVs are measured diagonally. You're right, all TVs are measured diagonally. True on the aspect ratio. You can fit more of the picture on a widescreen, which makes it look bigger. I would go to best buy and check out the TVs myself. The best TVs I've seen overall, small to big LCDs, have come from Sharp, Sony, or Samsung.
