Has anyone here rented a timeshare that they found online?
My family will be travelling to Florida and timeshares seem to be more reasonable in price than hotel suites.
I've never done this before, so I was curious as to how your experiences were with these timeshare condo's/houses/resorts and if you have any tips.
Thanks in advance

Timeshares are a big rip off. I'd avoid them like the plague.

Timeshares are a huge ripoff. You end up paying far more than if you simply rented a room. You're stuck with going to the same place every year too. Plus, you can't get rid of them if you try and you usually have to pay someone just to take it off your hands. It's a bad idea all the way around. Avoid them.

I casually saw it on South Park, it'll probably keep me away forever.

The concept of a timeshare is you buy a piece of it, allowing you a certain amount of weeks at it every year.
I have a friend with a timeshare, and he uses it to the maximum alloted time, it is much cheaper than paying for a hotel, but you have to use it for the fully allotted time. Otherwise it's not really worth the money.

Most people like to vacation at the same spot, especially when you're skiing or at a lake. Otherwise you're caught in the fight to get an overpriced hotel room.

ive been to one. it was really nice. everything was clean it had a fire place, three bedrooms a full kitchen, nice bathroom a nice tv with cable including a few movie channels and it overlooked the mountain and it was really pretty but i think it would be to expensive to actually go in on one but they are really cool

I agree with most of you, I would never buy a timeshare. They don't seem to have much value and I would rather vacation to a new spot every year.
What I am hoping to do is just rent a timeshare property for 1 week. So there is already an owner to the property but they rent it out because they can't go that week. There are hundreds of listings on the internet for these rentals, but I was just curious to see if anyone has ever rented one and how it turned out.

I know some people who like to go to the same place every year and I know some people who like to go someplace different. I personally never take vacation so I really can't say. I don't think I'd want to visit the same place every year, but I do know people who do and enjoy it.
