Well, as most of us Canadians know we have late, but rough winters, and lately (mostly this month) we have been hit hard. We got a total of 70 cm of snow (counting tonight's storm) and school was out for three days last week, and possibly tomorrow and thursday. The crazy thing is, out school principal told us that if we missed too much school they would give us summer school. Is this fair? Maybe more homework, okay yeah but another month of school isn't all that necessary. Funny thing is, I'm moving in July so I get to stay home (for snow) all I want. Has your school (or teacher) ever gone to these lenghts to actually teach something? I'm in grade 11, and we're actually still learning new stuff, which is pretty weird seeing as my brother had mostly review and college\uni prep.

On a couple of occasions my schools were considering extending the year into summer, once for a fire that kept us out of school for about a week, and once for a teachers strike. Nothing ended up happening.

I doubt my school would extend the school year into summer vacation because of a few snow days. Since there was a lot of snow storms during exams, the exams got pushed to the next day at the same time so we were already a day behind in our new semester, but I just don't think a longer school year will happen.

Well NY, you must have 180 days of school. If we had alot of snow days they would just take days off vacation in may, which blew cause it would be beautiful out and instead of being off we'd be in school.

How is that unfair? All the teachers have a set lesson plan. They have things they have to teach you. If you miss to much school because of the snow, then they will not have enough time to teach you everything. If they didn't extend the year and just let you guys go on to the next grade, then you'd be back here bitching about how your teachers didn't teach you the things you needed to know for the next school year. I know it sucks that they might have to cut into your summer vacation, but it's not like you would be missing any days off. You would just have some of them sooner.

Weve gotten 3 snow storms in the past 2 weeks, and we got one coming tommorow and school has only been cancelled once which was yesterday.
When we got Hurricane Juan, we missed a whole week of school. Then in the same school year, we got White Juan(A huge snow storm) we got 93cm of snow, and missed 3 days of school.
But even after all that, we never had to do work in the summer or have summer school.

Yeah, it's happened before, I heard a lot of people who didn't learn stuff last year that were having trouble this year. Fact is, you're right all the way, but they told us for half of June, our last month of school, we would prepare for our senior year. I asked them if they could just narrow it down to a week or maybe a couple of days, so we can catch up, but they said that many parents complained that thir kids weren't being "educated". Maybe they should keep those select-few people, I don't know, but I'm moving in July and I'd like to spend some time with people I've known for years, instead of doing extra time that could be avoided.
