A weird thing I noticed about Classic Superstars 1.

While I know Jeremy and Jakks had their reasons, it’s funny to think about how the oldest figure depictions in the very first series of Classic Superstars, had no figures depicting anyone outside of the last decade, and most of the looks were less than 10 years old. Like, Ultimate Warrior’s look was the oldest at 14 years old, but Shawn Michaels’ attire was only from 7 years prior. If you look at stuff from 7 years ago now, it feels current.

I guess I’m just getting older, but it’s weird how perspective changes.

It's funny, 7 years ago feels like yesterday but back in 2003 1996 felt like a lifetime ago.

Imagine a CS series now and the 1st guys in the wave were debut AJ Styles, bald HHH, gold Rollins, Wyatt, Demon Balor & NXT Sami Zayn.
That would feel weird and lack the Classic aura.

lol this is the exact route mattel is taking now basically look at that newest greatest hits wave with Cena miz Cody Sheamus from 2010-2015 era crazy that technically all that is considered flashback wise now and it only feels like it was a just few months to few years ago

It's mad to think that they started the wave in what, late 2003/early 2004? And by the time it was near the end there were "Classic" figures from 2003 onwards that would've been current when the line started. Hell they even had 2005 Eddie Guerrero and 2006 Edge in there, stuff that was from the future when the Classics began.

The Classics were anything that wasn't current, I'm glad Mattel always throw in throwback stuff, especially coming from an era where that was never the case and everyone in a wave was from the present.

Not really. The Greatest Hits line isn’t considered a “Legends/Classic” line it’s just figures that they want to rerelease. It would be more in line with Jakks “Best of” line (without the “Best of” stamp printed on the figure’s thigh)

Wrestling had changed significantly during that time. The look, feel, and presentation of wrestling was totally different from the early mid 90s to the early 00s. Everything from the characters and their attire to the in ring style to production had changed in major ways. And pop culture and the world in general changed in more significant ways. Everything from a pre to post 9/11 world to a world that was just discovering the internet to one where the majority of wrestling fans were online.

We live in a different world today. Look back a decade and at a rundamental level, top stars like KO, Reigns, Orton, etc have essentially the same look and presentation they did a decade ago. And our world around us looks pretty similar as well, from popular music to smart phones.

It makes you realize that without the Ultimate Warrior figure, the Classic Superstars line might never have taken off.
