Also anyone know if Chyna is still signed? Seems a while since she's had a figure. And she would surely be a good candidate for an Ultimate. Would love to see Chyna in black leather gear with gauntlet gloves, and new serious or mean-looking headscan (post jaw operation). They just released her in the rsc exclusive dx four pack a few months ago so I assume she's still signed. Surprised they didn't put her and the rest of dx in the mnw line, instead they just want to release multiples of the same people.

I do wonder what's blocking Macho Man / WWE currently; We've seen Andre The Giant, Jake The Snake Roberts, and Billy Gunn all be kept on Legends Status but yet also have running deals with other outside companies. Wonder why WWE can't get Savage's estate on a deal like that? But for me, THIS image made it clear that Macho isn't part of the plan right now. Savage is sorely missing from this group. On the bright side - I guess this means they still have rights to Elizabeth and Sherri? Maybe we'll still get NWO Elizabeth and Harlem Heat "Sister" Sherri.... Savage is a much larger cash cow than any of those names.Β If it's true they want him exclusive, the value of the outside contracts may vastly exceed what WWE is offering.Β Let's say 20% of Macho's revenue comes from outside deals, but WWE is only offering a 10% bump in revenues, then it's a not a good deal for the estate.Β And there are probably enough variables at play that neither side is in a rush to cave and give in. I think youβre on the money. Thereβs probably a ton of variables at play that we on the outside just donβt know. We look for anything that gives us a crumb of hope whether itβs his inclusion in the 2K games or his recent return to WWE Champions after being yanked from the game.

Also, Pillman is back in the fold and they only have ONE figure so far? Underrated letdown. I'm ecstatic to be able to properly complete the Hollywood Blondes, but like....we need WWF debut/promo Pillman Hart Foundation Pillman ECW Pillman WCW Pillman Ultimate Pillman in any era would be amazing I wanted to see them treat him like they did Fred Ottman who got 3 figures of his gimmicks out almost immediately Only Pillman I need is four horsemen. The old basic one just don't cut it I'll buy any Pillman they make. But the tiger stripe trunks are by far the most iconic look he has, and both that and the Hart Foundation are already made. Maybe they pop up in Greatest Hits at some point, but not something you need to rush into the line. I think most of notable WWF tshirts are licensed designs. It seems unlikely Mattel would pay additional licensing fees on a mid-name talent.

Well I also have no doubt that these contracts are being handled differently now that TKO is running the ship, and not Vince McMahon. WWE's former way of "cost cutting" was mass-layoffs after Wrestlemania. Maybe TKO's way of "cost cutting" is to trim these Legends contracts. We've also seen very little/no effort being put into adding more classic material to the WWE Network.... It's possible that TKO would rather highlight today's stars & spend less money on the stars of yesterday.

The Legends contracts don't really "cost" WWE anything, so I doubt any major changes are taking place there. Talent is paid a very modest advance on royalties, and then get a cut of WWE's share. But the same would be true of active talent, so it's very cost neutral on the balance sheet. New classic content has dried up well before TKO. Once they had the Peacock deal, there was no incentive to add new content. You aren't trying to entice new subs with additional content like when everything was on the Network. Even finished projects like the Lex Luger Icons episode and the Vlad Superfan documentary were shelved. The Luger footage was later repurposed into his A&E Biograpy episode and the Vlad documentary was eventually released. But the monthly Classic Content drops stopped a good bit back.

There's a nice mix of eras and new talent. The lack of FTIL reveals is disappointing to say the least, but Mattel is making the most of what they have to work with. The preview night reveals were definitely the highlight for me though. Yeh it's easy to point blame at Mattel for the lack of "first time" names (I'm probably guilty of it sometimes) but in reality we know Steve and Bill are big wrestling fans like us, want to fill the longtime gaps and hit the deep cuts (for the Monday Night Wars era especially) and we know Mattel have regular discussions with WWE Legal to suggest who they approach/sign. With the Monday Night Wars line being so painfully heavy on repaints and WWF A-lister names, it's pretty logical that Steve and Bill must be suggesting WWE try getting guys like Mortis/Kanyon, Norman Smiley, Ernest Miller, Buff Bagwell, Alex Wright, Konnan, Disco Inferno, Perry Saturn, Steve McMichael, Billy Kidman, Kronik, etc... While obviously talent may not always wanna make a deal, I'd guess for the most part WWE are probably the ones dropping the ball here. But hopefully as the line goes forward the situation will improve.

As far as classic content, thereβs been speculation that theyβre holding it back until the Peacock deal ends and maybe Netflix takes up the archives.

RE: Punk's knuckle tats, they are present on the packaged version of the Vault figure as well for whatever that's worth. Overall I still think it could end up being a BIG issue, or much ado about nothing once figures are actually out. http://instagram.com/p/C926742Sbmc Being that this is a rerelease and the return street clothes Punk was exclusive to Mattel's adult collector site, I'm still holding my breath on the knuckle tats being on anything new or mainline. If this is the only figure with pinless, taped hands and the knuckle tats I might have to buy a couple more, lol.

While obviously talent may not always wanna make a deal, I'd guess for the most part WWE are probably the ones dropping the ball here. But hopefully as the line goes forward the situation will improve. They're clearly going way outside the box to add new content - Disciple, Golga, Fake Diesel, Who, Teddy Long as a ref. The problem for me is that those aren't really figures I get excited about. I'm adding them to my collection as roster filler, and I appreciate that we're getting them made. But those gimmicks were background characters, and in some cases like Who and Fake Diesel, were basically blink and you missed them runs. Again - I'll gladly buy them and have them in my collection. But they don't have the same excitement level or impact that someone like Saturn, Konnan, Crush, Al Snow, Ahmed Johnson, or others who were featured wrestlers over the course of years. WWE does seem to be offering up contracts for less marquee talent - Sandman, Headbangers, Samu. All we can do is wait, but we're in great hands with Bill and Steve. Very few designers have the passion and knowledge base about their product that those two do.

I think it's got to the point where they are spreading themselves too thin. They have too many lines going over the last few years, with very few new names signed. Who did they have new this year? Pillman, Muta. I think that's it.
Also...based on his Instagram feeds, Ozer Seema to have one foot dipped into this Street Sharks line so who knows how interested he still is in the WWE line.
Unrelated, but on a side note - I hope that they don't even do a Ringside Fest this year. If they do, get a more enthusiastic host. RSC Tom gave off the energy last year that he is going through the motions and to me it translated to the lack of excitement for the presentation.
Look how.many Edge looks they left on the table. It was common knowledge from his Royal Rumble return that he had a three year contract. They should have been putting out lots of different looks of his. Instead when he left the company Ozer flat out seemed taken off guard and unaware about his contract.

Albert, Finlay, Smiley, Kidman and Steve Corino all work there and would be cool figures. Can't see any reason why they wouldn't sign legends deals or whatever they're called now.

When does the show open today and/or this weekend?
I'm curious to see if anything new gets slipped into the cases like usual.

Though I'd rather not see them as Walmart exclusives, Billy Kidman and Norman Smiley are absolute no-brainers for the MNW line. Imagine a Norman Smiley with a cloth "wiggle time" shirt, football helmet and shoulderpads accessories, screaming headscan... Such an entertaining and unique character! How can they NOT have sent an internal memo or whatever asking this guy to sign a deal?! Kidman (serious chilled out headscan though, not smiling!) would be sweet too.

I give the SDCC reveals a solid 8/10. It's unfortunate that they haven't been able to get any new legends signed but I do appreciate the fact that they are releasing as many characters as they can amongst the names that they have. There were still a lot of new "characters" revealed:
Legends: Justin "Hawk" Bradshaw Smokin Billy Gunn Golga Young Carlito WCW Bulldog NWO Dusty Great Khali Hollywood Blondes Pillman Fatu Hardcore Hak
Current: Andre Chase Duke Hudson Thea Hail Trick Williams Zoey Stark Jade Cargill Lexis King Axiom Ethan Page Jacob Fatu Tama Tonga
So that's still a ton of new characters. The re-releases are out of control but I think it was a great reveal for current roster collecters while still having enough for Legends collectors despite clearly not having new legends deals in place. Although the lack of Big Poppa Pump Steiner is still a little baffling.

While I donβt mind a SG Billy coming, I wonder if maybe they couldβve done the clean shave shorter hair version that he had as a solo heel for a time. Either way the fact they still make Billy Gunns is great. Just going to patiently wait for Rockabilly or The One.
