Great figure except dor the boots. They are similar to the boots Chella did with Adam Bomb and Switchblade (to name just 2). Their shape is just too cloudy. Look at Rick and Scott and even to original PN proto. Otherwise great figure and I can see me supporting them.

Very interested in Galoob tributes but not sure modern guys should be even 25% of the focus.

Agreed - would have thought there was plenty of meat on the bones for both Top Rope Collectibles and the EPIC Loobs line to focus on stars of past before dipping into modern day. I'm always open to being pleasantly surprised and eat my words, but can see myself largely supporting the retro names these Companies produce before shelling out for anything current day.

Have any current names been announced for these lines? Joey Janela is the only current name. The other three figures in the set will be Mr. Wonderful, PN News, and Marcus Bagwell. Epic Toys are making some as well. They signed Vader for the WM line so I imagine there is a heavy chance that will be happening with the Loobs line. It didn’t sound like there was a strong desire to sign current stars. PowerTown will be doing Galoob style figures as well but I’m unaware of any names or other announcements.

Is the Powertown/Galoob thing confirmed? If so, then that's great. The more, the merrier. Personally, I'm okay with newer guys in this style, as I just honestly think it's fantastic to be able to grow the Galoob roster, provided they look and feel like the originals. I'm happy to bring in a few new names as enhancement talent in my shelf federation of little rigid blokes, lol.

Going from memory (WARNING!) - I think PT entering the market was one factor in the Major’s not wanting to do their own Galoob tribute line. They had mentioned wanting to do a robed Flair which sounded cool. So to clarify, PowerTown has not made any announcements at all as far as I’m aware but it did sound like a strong likelihood.

Also from memory, I believe they mentioned that PowerTown owns the rights to the Galoob name. And they’ve said they like making their own form factors that no one else is doing at the time (Bendies, LJN form factor), to not be part of a crowded market.

That makes sense with regards to why MP didn't want to do that style. It seemed odd to me that they'd not give it a go otherwise. I don't know much about Powertown's UK distribution, but assuming that they do opt in for Galoobs, I'm all for it.

So that PN News is just a straight copy of the Galoob one?
It's like the wild west now. I understand most people don't really care but the whole "retro" scene seems to be void of any ethics.

I assume the logic for PN News is "People want that Galoob, let's make the Galoob they never had a chance to buy"
everything from that point should be new and unique - give us something we didn't get before. fine, take something that didn't work the first time, refine and remake it (better) but some of the stuff we're getting seems to be lost IMO
Paul Orndorff is a massive loss in the Retro community - especially since Mattel have still not made a figure of him to finish off the WM1 headline event.
but is anyone really desperate for an Orndorff in the Galoob style? yes he was around in WCW in 1990/91 when the Galoobs came out, but he's more widely known as a WWF headliner, so wouldn't people be more interested in buying an Orndorff in the Retro style over a Galoob type figure?

I love the Galoobs, as a kid I even tended to prefer them over Hasbros a bit. But they were not hot sellers then and I really can’t imagine their being a big market for them now.

It's a figure that was supposed to be made but never was. I for one think that retro lines these days should be making the figures we should have gotten but never did, as opposed to figures of influencers, presidents and movie stars.

No. But if you are doing 500 minimum runs, that is only 10 people per state who would need to order one and it doesn’t factor in the fairly substantial international community. Obviously could be done doesn’t = should be done. So it’s definitely a risky venture taking on one of the smallest niches out there…but I am all for it as a collector. Even if it’s something I’m not interested in buying, I like to see other enthusiasts get something new and be happy for it. I just hope each of the figure makers out there aren’t going to lose their shirt if their products end up flopping.

I think it gets lost that people were responsible for designing, sculpting etc. the original PN News figure for Galoob. Now someone is effectively ripping it off for profit. As I said though, most people don't really care and a few of the other posts just back that up really.

As I said though, most people don't really care and a few of the other posts just back that up really. What are you waffling on about? People have been making bootleg versions of these figures for years and did the actual talent see that money? PN News didn't see a penny out of any Galoob figure, nor did he see a penny out of any bootlegs. He's seeing a profit from this new figure. Let's not pretend like these retro companies aren't intentionally making the figures that Hasbro didn't make. ZST's Jarret? Mattel might have actually been better off making a few of the missing Hasbro pieces instead of the McDonald's toys they're pumping out. Top Rope are making the PN News that Galoob never made, then they're making Paul Orndorff. If you don't like it, don't bloody buy it.

I think it gets lost that people were responsible for designing, sculpting etc. the original PN News figure for Galoob. Now someone is effectively ripping it off for profit. I don't think it's as much "lost" as "most people just don't care" probably because whilst those people were responsible for the design/sculpting etc in 1991, most if not all of that work would have been done in-house by Galoob's employees, so they were just doing their jobs, and were paid regardless of whether the figure was, or wasn't, released to market so I think maybe people don't look at it as "think of the little guy", they probably just don't care about a 30+ yr old design from a defunct company?
but your point is extremely valid - the blatant "ripping off" of unreleased designs is lazy for the most part. but in this case, I think when the images were released a lot of people felt "AWW!!! I'd have loved that!!" so I can appreciate what TRC are doing in terms of giving the market (what there is of it) the figure that we never got
though if their entire line was just PN News, Ricky Morton and Diamond Studd, Freebirds and Black Blood, all carbon copies of the concept art, then I'd be inclined to call them out more on it. at the moment, it's just one, and it seems to have won them an audience - let's see if the execution is good enough to deliver?
