Steve said without Ali this four pack doesn’t happen. So I’m extremely thankful for the deal Mattel had with him. That’s unfortunate if Mattel feels that they needed Ali to ok this set. Just shows you they are hesitant on anything pre 80s. I guess Powertown will have to pick up the slack for us. Just too bad they are so slow getting figures out. Its obviously a tough sell. Wrestling did not hit mainstream until the mid 80s. Those who grew up watching prior to that era are at least in their mid to late 50s and probably not collecting action figures. Plus Graham was released prior and didn’t really sell well, Bruno also warmed for a bit, even the younger Hogan figures they produced recently aren’t flying off the shelves the same as his more iconic looks.

It obviously should dissuade the "SDCC Ali was a bust" narrative that continues to permeate around here. If the big brass can look at their internal numbers and agree that Ali was necessary for this release. Of course, it won't change anything because we are in the worst timeline.

Just wait until Mattel corporate sees the data if they finally release a Hercules. It’ll make Ali look like rookie numbers.

I think people are missing the fact that the Ali license is probably EXPENSIVE, so they are busting out his figures ala Hogan, Savage. I remember Cardona saying the Macho Man license is expensive thus why every company that has him is making tons of figures to try and recoup the costs. It's the same with Ali for Mattel.

I think most of yall just take things too serious and can't stand to see others have a good time bantering.

When I look at the availability for Legends 22 in my area, Ali is easily selling better than Sultan, Captn Lou, and Hogan. He was the first to sell out with the initial stock and quantities are dwindling with the recent restocks.

"Isacc Yankem will fly off the pegs! Let's do The Shockmaster! But if you want a Harley Race and a Superstar Billy Graham you're gonna need to package it with a suited Ali! That'll do the trick!" - Mattel, I guess. Basically.

If this sells well, I hope they don't think it's because of Ali, no disrespect to the man. Give it a watch for some context. www.youtube.com/live/gt0ncSBnnfg?si=Xe2EOxyz-T64vNal

Yeah, but it was the way you said it. Me being thoughtful is not some attack, bruv Oh, that's what it was. Duly noted, bruv. "Isacc Yankem will fly off the pegs! Let's do The Shockmaster! But if you want a Harley Race and a Superstar Billy Graham you're gonna need to package it with a suited Ali! That'll do the trick!" - Mattel, I guess. That's funny cuz it's true. Weird how that works lol When I look at the availability for Legends 22 in my area, Ali is easily selling better than Sultan, Captn Lou, and Hogan. He was the first to sell out with the initial stock and quantities are dwindling with the recent restocks. Weird. Especially when you look at the SDCC figures' poor performance.

Steve, I just want to say that I was in no way attacking you personally, just stating that I had not heard that particular interview and was surprised. I of course realize you guys have a lot to juggle, and having a chance to work on an Ali figure is a great opportunity but also daunting. I’m trying to get a feel for what the true affect is for the pre 80s guys, and it looks like most people want the others but your bosses obviously feel otherwise which I respect. I sincerely appreciate all the bones you’ve thrown us with these people, I’m apparently older than I am and really want some of the older people in my collection. I know you’re fighting the good fight and I truly do appreciate it.

I think the powers that be overestimated the demand and overproduced it. Pretty sure it outsold every SDCC exclusive before it or at the very least sold just as many.

If we'll never know for sure, then we can stop pushing narratives around that are admittedly unprovable and have been denied by voices with any real say-so?

Regardless if it did sell that well, cool, keep the same amount of SDCC exclusives produced going forward.
