That’s unfortunate if Mattel feels that they needed Ali to ok this set. Just shows you they are hesitant on anything pre 80s. I guess Powertown will have to pick up the slack for us. Just too bad they are so slow getting figures out. Its obviously a tough sell. Wrestling did not hit mainstream until the mid 80s. Those who grew up watching prior to that era are at least in their mid to late 50s and probably not collecting action figures. Plus Graham was released prior and didn’t really sell well, Bruno also warmed for a bit, even the younger Hogan figures they produced recently aren’t flying off the shelves the same as his more iconic looks. You’re not wrong. I low key wish they would do animated shorts or highlight packages promoting the legends to younger fans. I’m only 30 and the reason I became the biggest Dusty Rhodes and Harley Race fan and idolized Florida was because of the DVD they released about Dusty in 07. I watched it more than Raw or Smackdown that year.

I think the most they ever acknowledged it was when they would mention that Pedro was a triple crown champion.

Me being thoughtful is not some attack, bruv Oh, that's what it was. Duly noted, bruv. "Isacc Yankem will fly off the pegs! Let's do The Shockmaster! But if you want a Harley Race and a Superstar Billy Graham you're gonna need to package it with a suited Ali! That'll do the trick!" - Mattel, I guess. That's funny cuz it's true. Weird how that works lol When I look at the availability for Legends 22 in my area, Ali is easily selling better than Sultan, Captn Lou, and Hogan. He was the first to sell out with the initial stock and quantities are dwindling with the recent restocks. Weird. Especially when you look at the SDCC figures' poor performance. While the focus of the thread is wrestling figures, it is a misnomer to the public good to not mention the importance of Muhammad Ali’s contribution to civilization in order to inspire readers of the thread to expand their interests and historical literacy. Literally, he’s super important and we can all benefit from being reminded of the reasons why and take that as inspiration to do good stuff in our communities. Like I’m debating buying figures to raffle off to generate donations to Doctors Without Borders. Ali would have approved of that.

We don't and won't know any of that though. Regardless if it did sell that well, cool, keep the same amount of SDCC exclusives produced going forward. Okay, but I don't think that was the case. We'll never know for sure. I’ve never known Steve to be a BS artist so I’ll choose to believe him until someone can produce data that contradicts him. I don't think he is, but thats all here say. Mattel doesn't show numbers like the bigger corporations do. Numbers don't lie.

Now me telling you is hearsay and you can choose to believe whether other or not I actually had this conversation with him but as I said before I will continue to take Steve at his word unless someone can provide evidence supporting their narrative.

But you don’t have the numbers so how exactly are you able to conclude that Ali didn’t sell as well or better than the other exclusives?

Infact I said if it did I hope they keep the same production numbers going forward.

Okay, but I don't think that was the case. We'll never know for sure. If we'll never know for sure, then we can stop pushing narratives around that are admittedly unprovable and have been denied by voices with any real say-so? I can see this upsets you in some way, but the reality is you have no proof otherwise, either. We are left to draw our own conclusions here. Based on what I've seen in comparison to all the other Mattel WWE SDCC exclusives, Ali sold poorly. In fact, it is still available for purchase almost a year later. 2+2 and all that.

Mine will be here Saturday. Woo-hoo.
Hopefully Ali doesn’t dodge my 4-pack.
