I wish we could have gotten the pink hat and a pair of shades. I think I might have preferred that to the shirt. Would a Bluetista hat and Ichiban Hogan sunglasses work in a pinch?

The fun of Superstar is that you can add custom stuff to his look and it often fits as long as it’s 70s aesthetic like tie dye or funky stuff, so feel free to add whatever you like. Ponchos, fringe, hats, I’ve also found you can make super tight tank tops out of the necks of balloons if you can find wild patterns or colors.

I think I've purchased like 9 or 10 of the SDCC Ali packs. Sold half of those referees kept the other half for my photos. I just swapped heads with others version of wrestlers I don't use or characters I don't use.
As for the boxer Ali and a unique tone so I stocked up while it's available

I can't believe mattel got the WWWF title right with the 6 side plates. Was a bit worried they'd only do 4. Bravo mattel, these small details are seen from us collectors!

I really hope this is successful and we get more. I'm curious that Steve mentioned the pickings for talent pre 80s was sparse.

I can’t stop looking at that picture of Harley holding the “territory championship”. They looks so great together. As does Billy Graham.
I just hope this does well enough that they can make some more territory packs with some early to mid 80s guys as well.

Id imagine he means that a lot of the guys he'd like to do just aren't available. As far as big time WWWF guys go goes there's no word on Buddy Rogers, Pedro Morales, Antonino Rocca, Mil Mascaras, Jerry or Luke Graham, so on and so on. That's not even getting into other names that were bigger stars in other territories like Hansen, Brody, Ivan Koloff, the Von Erichs. I'd imagine what we'll mostly see in regards to pre-80s stuff is younger versions of guys they already have , Dusty from his WWWF or CWF runs, Lawler from his time in Memphis, maybe a couple different Terry Funks. Then you could do like Blackjack Mulligan, Stu Hart, Bob Orton Sr, Larry Hennig since their relatives are already under deals and probably amicable to licensing them out. I'd like to think we'll get some surprise figures like Brody or the Von Erichs since they're kinda back in the spotlight but who knows.

I can't think of too many 70s guys that are "must have" to me, as I was born in 1983. And I'm a wrestling historian. For cred purposes - I'm a huge fan of The Destroyer and The Crusher, both of those guys would place in my all-time top 50.
With that said, its a different time. A lot of these guys don't translate well to toys. Big beer-bellied guys in plain grey or black tights. Which I love, lol, but they'd be a hard sell, even with Creations. I like this set. I think Mattel did the best they could have with what they had, and they'll look great with the upcoming Bruno and the three-pack High Chief.

I'm really looking forward to this set. NWA Harley and ring gear Gorilla are two figures I've wanted for a long time. I think the new Graham looks great too. Don't care about this Ali at all.
As for the future, two of my biggest wants would be Fred Blassie vs The Shiek.

Yeah while this set is cool I don’t think this era is nostalgic for probably 99% of us collecting this line. Most of us started watching in the Golden Age or after and WWF/E for the longest time did its best to ignore its history prior to Hogan pinning Sheik. That being said, guys who originated in this era that continued to maintain relevancy into the Golden Age I’d be excited for, specifically Pedro.

Based on the people signed, I am not sure how much more traction we can get from this - maybe one more set would be excellent, but not sure how more they could do.
If they keep with the themes of direct matches, then the biggest one based on who is signed (assuming signed based on the fact that we have figures from them already) would be Bruno Sammnartino vs Larry Zbyszko. If they did not stick with the match-ups, and wanted wrestlers from the 'territory days' of the later 70's / early 80's, then we can go with a 70's version of Dusty Rhodes, big hair Andre the Giant, and a more 70's version of Bob Backlund would also work. I would love to see a younger wrestler version of Pat Patterson too. But without repeating, I am not sure how many more we could get from this set if it were in fact to become a regular thing.

See I suppose I’m odd that I grew up hearing my grandfather (born in the 20’s) and Uncle (born in the late 40s) waxing poetic about a lot of these guys and it’s what caused me to seek out so much of the older stuff and whatever I could get my hands on.
I agree that “men in tights” isn’t as toyetic obviously as the newer people, but in the right set or with the right accessories that could be a plus. It could cut down on cost, maybe? I’ve been after proper versions of the old belts for a long time and it always seemed like a big no-no.
I’m also all for earlier versions of the current guys and / or their relatives. The Maivia set definitely opens the door for that.
On the subject of Ali, I wonder if they thought Gorilla wouldn’t sell on his own, or Ali wouldn’t? But from what I’m seeing more people seem to want the Gorilla more.
