I feel like these guys must either be super laidback in terms of their creative direction, or at least one has heat.
Why are they not doing more in AEW?

Black has been DOA since Cody couldn't accept a loss (just a fact, not a pattern that some would like to insinuate). Buddy's introduction was underwhelming. Julia's arc a bit too strung out. Their trios reign has been the only real traction they've gotten, and they lost to Daddy Ass. Then there was that unfortunateness when multiple members took time off that the sheets still haven't let go of, to the point of calling them liars. Much turmoil in their time and way less success than expected.
Is this because of heat? Dunno.

Meh. It's AEW. You can't have one guy or one group control everything for months. They'll come back around.

Tony Khan had a huge roster and didn't know how to get everyone on tv so his solution was factions factions factions. Either nobody in the group would do anything (Dark Order) or half a group would get a push (Jericho and Sammy) while the other half of the group did nothing at all (Hagar, Ortiz and Santana). Tony didn't know what to do with them back then (Team Taz) and he doesn't know what to do with them now (Bang Bang Scissor Gang). The House of Black are apart of that mess.

Hopefully the creative direction is Malakai and Buddy going out the door. Keep Brody and Julia, they're great.

Malakai Black is best served as a singles competitor but clearly isn't viewed as such.
Matthews has it even worse; as a singles competitor he's like watching Kenny Omega minus the bad selling but as a tag team he's virtually invisible.
Brody King has heat with the boys for being friends with CM Punk.
Best case scenario Black and Matthews go back to WWE while Brody becomes another "monster of the week job squad" for AEW.

Seems Black and Matthews are biding their time, till they can get out, apparently. As for King, WWE would be silly to pass on him, if he's available too. Hart will stay because of whichever jobber named Lee she's married to - unless he ends up leaving too.

I personally think they're great. Not sure what Tony Khan is thinking long term with Malakai Black, he easily should be in the world title picture. I hear all kinds of rumors Black and Matthews might be leaving AEW if so I would like to see Brody King team up with Darby. Let Hart do her solo act because she is killing it.
