I’m all in for the chase packaging but shouldn’t we be able to just choose to buy it instead of hoping? These sets aren’t cheap. If they want people to buy two sets surely just offer them both?
Then there’s the issue of the older sets not having the chase cards. It seems odd to offer these on all sets going forward, but not updating the older ones. I think people will be less inclined to collect these unless they update the older waves too.
What do you all think?

I’d appreciate the option of even like “i would not like the chase carding” because personally I’ll want to keep my collection consistent and i don’t have sarge at all let alone the black card so I’m not gonna start now.

I voted option to buy both but i know in this regard that they will probably stick to their guns. They needed a way to sell more of these from creations and create some activity for them on the aftermarket.
What many of you might not realize however is that this could be the beginning of more colors in more limited runs. This would be considered a "parallel" in the sport and non-sport card market. I remember collecting sports cards when the craze first began. First one color, then another, then 2 more and now 15 years later many card sets have 12-15 color parallels. I hope it stops with black because if mattel and hasbro copy the idea then the completionist will go bankrupt.
Stick with black mattel. Toys are expensive enough as it is.

Based on the responses on this i think they will all least consider it but with so many strict timelines and seeing prototypes show up on ebay after release day i doubt they even keep the tooling long enough to do a 2nd run. I think these figures are all one and done. There is no more supply and i dont remember creations ever doing a 2nd printing of figures when they sold out. Either way it can only benefit them to do so as it appears the majority are for them re-releasing the first 3 waves. Personally they should as they are starting to move on ebay. But it would probably benefit them and the collector if they waited a bit till demand for the earlier sets moves the price as it is likely they will charge more for a 2nd smaller limited run. Either way i dont see it happening even if they should as it is pretty rare to see in the figure toy market. One and done 99% of the time unless we are talking about pvc figures.

If going random drives up interest and sales, allowing this line to gain interest and keep going deep, I’m all for it. Even though I’m displaying these MOC on their cardbacks, I’m content getting either blue or black chases. That said, I thought of one, which could come as soon as next wave, that would make my “either is good enough” mentality truly be tested- Andre The Giant. It wouldn’t shock me if they did him as a 2 in 1, packaged in blue card with the longer hair and blue trunks- with matching card art; but for black card package him in the black cloth singlet and short hair- with matching card art. I think if they did that I would feel forced to buy both, even paying the absurd secondary market price for the black card, because it would be essentially a whole new figure (for MOC at least).

I'm gonna be unpopular here......
I don't think they should offer a chase on products that aren't available in stores. For many of the reasons already listed on this thread.
The idea of a "chase" is to challenge collectors to go around to different stores & hopefully find that magic rarity.... but the good thing is that you don't have to buy the product at every single store you go to. But if you are like me, you might buy a few of your groceries or other needs as you go around hunting.... and then the retailer benefits by having us trek to their various stores looking for this unicorn.
These are only available online, and.... if these are being offered randomly? I'm going to be awfully frustrated if I buy one set.... and it's not the chase.... then I buy another set.... and it's not the chase..... what do I do then? Order a third set and hope for the best? Your ability to get this set is strictly dictated by some Average Joe at a warehouse putting figures in a box.
Or depend on the kindness of scalpers, but with this method - I don't even know how THEY will get their hands on these in any significant numbers...
The random method will just lead to frustration for the completists and those who just want the black card. And collecting these little plastic figures is often already too frustrating as it is.

I think the different packaging is awful and is as bad of a chase idea as there can be. If there is going to be a chase, it should be differences in the figure itself. The sports card comparison doesn't compare to packaging of action figures. It would be the equivalent of buying a pack of cards feom thr same series with differnt artwork on the packaging. The cards inside would still be the same. If one keeps their collection loose, how would you be able to tell the difference between the "chase" and the regular figure? I am all for chases when the figures have some differences, even if they are small. The concept of different packaging as a chase makes no sense to me and is a lazy way of making a "chase varient" for a product.

I think a lot of people won’t care. It’s a MOC collector Issue.

I'm not MOC, but the CC cards don't get damaged when you open them and they display great near the loose figures like the old LJN posters. I'd like the option of just buying the standard so they match.

Yup exactly all of that and then some. This is why they should make it an option to buy both. Personally, this was a good idea but it may be too little to late. I was beeing generous when i said earlier sets are starting to move on ebay. Only the hogan/funk 2 packs are selling well individually as they were sold at bogo prices on cyber monday last fall. But they are selling for less than the original cost (despite a small gain for the reseller) Therefore new collectors are holding off on buying the newer sets. The pricepoint is the biggest problem with this line; not the card color. This is another example of mattel overcomplicating things for themselves. Now they may need to go and reprint the first 3 sets to keep collectors happy. I did not see anyone specifically asking for the card change.i wish they would have researched the ljn line a bit more beforehand.

I think a lot of people won’t care. It’s a MOC collector Issue. I think the majority of people collecting this line are moc collectors. I have not seen many loose collections of these but i have seen moc collections. I personally open at least one of each of everything i buy except for ultimates and these coliseum figures. I cant get around to opening the great packaging. I know i am not alone. I personally dont need the black card nor will i pay extra for it but i hope those that do want it, get theirs only so that the line continues. I think we are lucky this line is still going strong despite the bogo sale last november. Gives me hope it can run deep.

I voted luck of the draw just because it will move more sets and I want the CC line to be as successful as possible so we get more releases.
I won’t be too bothered if I don’t get the black cards, as the blue will match all the earlier sets - though I would like to see black cards for those, even if it’s a print-it-yourself type thing.

Lame poll, no offense. It's called "chase" for a reason, meant to chase it. I think it's lame that RSC offers the chase straight up for WWE.

If we’re laying down our hard earned money to purchase these then yes absolutely, we ( not someone else ) should have the choice & the right to buy which one we want

I ordered 2 Sgt Slaughters and both ended up being black cards. I was hoping for one of each so I traded one for a blue card. So yeah, I'd prefer to spend a few extra bucks for the option to have both.
