I am 150% on board with them not being exact LJN replicas, because the Jake, Rude, and Bret have all matched their Hasbro attires. It’s a sneaky way of doing a double homage. I wouldn’t change a single thing.
But, coming from the LJN and Hasbro era, I would always lean toward a mashup/generic attire that represents the look of the wrestler in general instead of something that’s pigeonholed to one specific event.

I'm OK with the Coliseum stuff not being "exact" replicas, as long as they're close enough. LJN was definitely limited by the technology of the time; I'm assuming many of their decisions were based on budget constraints as opposed to artistic license. Hart Foundation falls under the category of "close enough." That said, I'm puzzled as to where this line can go from here. The remaining LJN talent that Mattel can make doesn't include many anchor characters, and in many cases, there isn't much left to do that would differentiate them from recent Elites. Ted DiBiase in removable entrance suit seems like a slam-dunk. But Ultimate Bob Orton, John Studd or Brutus Beefcake seem like tougher sells at this price point, especially since we just got decent "ultimate-esque" Elites with very nice soft goods. The LJN era was also pre-massive marketing push, so you still have a lot of guys wearing 70's style plain tights. Not as toyetic as the later stuff. Not that there's anything wrong with that, just an observation. I'm looking forward to see what's next. Unless/until Macho comes back, Warrior and Andre are the only guaranteed “anchors” left to carry sets. But I could also seeing them going back to Hogan for his classic yellow-trunks look, even though that’s already been done as a very good Ultimate. After that, the question becomes if they consider guys like DiBiase, Honky and Sheik to be anchors. You are right that a lot have already been done in LJN-like looks as Elites/Legends, but so had Jake, and he “anchored” a set. So I don’t think that necessarily changes anything.

Things dont have to be exact all the time. Besides until they start adding the posters these are not ljn tributes but instead ljn stylized. I would have loved a hulk hogan poster in big but too late now. Either way these are all winners so far.

this is classic Mattel strategy of just adding belts because they kno ppl will buying anything with a belt.
Otherwise who are these for? These are certainly not worth $70. There is not 70 bux worth of figures here. They don't look like the LJNs. What is the point of making them Ultimates if ur not going to do the 1990 version with the entrance jackets?
you can get better looking Mattel hart foundation figures for cheaper right now. That are in better scale. Don't have gorilla long arms and have flush torsos

The prices are steep for these but willing to pay them to keep it going. Still wish they would sell these seperately as well as not everyone can fork over 70 bucks a time. This will allow someone living paycheck to paycheck to buy them slowly one at a time.

I know the argument against splitting into single packs has been that some talent wouldn’t sell on their own- Funk, Steele, etc. For retail stores, I would get that. But since this is for the hardcore collector, and sold only online, does the “anchor” notion really make that big of a difference? Of course, I don’t see the numbers. But I’d think that many fans who buy these are “all in” and/or want depth, would rather get an SD Jones or Ted Arcidi than their 100th Hulk Hogan. Ok, rant aside, I really do love this line and hope it can continue indefinitely to get us more and more depth. Outback Jack, here we come!

I think at the beginning of the line, any line, you definitely need anchor talent to sell the figures to keep the line going. But I believe as the line grows and continues, you don't really need anchors all that much. I mean, if we get Hogan, Bret, Piper, Macho, Jake, Rude, DiBiase, Warrior, Andre, etc. in the first handful of sets, by the time they grow the line out, would anyone really be upset about a Bam Bam/One Man Gang set, or a Big Boss Man/Slick set, or Iron Sheik/Volkoff set? The more the merrier.

Can’t believe they did ultimate harts and didn’t give them leather jackets They weren't wearing jackets at this point. I'm sure they'll do another minor repaint with the jackets to double dip on suckers like me that want every version of the Hart Foundation they put out

This is an ultimate. It definitely should have come with the jacket.

Personally, I would like these items: Sgt. Pepper Jackets, silver shades for Bret, pink beanie and regular shades for Anvil: All pink attire, nicknames down the legs of the tights, Hart Foundation on the back. Also include the new gold and silver tag titles.

I don't disagree, I'd like to get as much bang for my buck as possible it's just not accurate to the time or the LJN figures so I didn't expect it to be included

Fair point. It would have been nice to have the jackets but seeing as they weren't wearing them around that time I didn't expect them to come with this release. I'm sure they'll do another set with the jackets down the line, might be able to pick up a loose pair or some third party ones for a reasonable price if you dont feel like double dipping

Feel like Rude and Steele would have also felt incomplete without those additional accessories, I think it's the only shot we'll get at names like that getting an ultimate so you kind of have to fit in all the iconic bits and pieces in one release. I can't imagine Rude without a robe, I can't imagine Steele without Mine, I can imagine the Hart Foundation without jackets even if I'd like to have them

That I'm not sure of, but it was after he joined the Hart Foundation and the group was solidified so it's not totally a nonsense mish-mash, and does work for either 94 or 97 which I think was the idea behind it (though personally I wish they had just done the later 97 gear)

I’m hearing a fair amount of complaining on the Q&A toward Steve on the black card chase additions. I get it for those of you who want to be completists, but realistically, this may be the best way to keep this line going longer. I feel like something had to shift to give this line some more collector interest and “move the needle.” Wouldn’t you rather miss out on alternative cardbacks than miss out entirely on future potential figures?
