That could be, but is that the actual reason? Or just more speculation? Are Jazwares and Mattel in the same scale? If so, tell Jazwares to make the Sting figures .1 inch bigger... There, they're not the same scale, so they should be able to make Sting in any attire. Just seems odd that some guys can make/sell items in attires they wore in the WWF/WCW/AWA/ECW, etc., but others can't. Did Sting sell the rights to his likeness to the WWE when he signed years ago? Seems odd that Sting wouldn't fall in that same category with those who owned their own likeness/name. He didn't sign with the WWE until he was pretty much retired, working everywhere under the Sting name, and he worked with companies previously that did trademark names and likenesses for their wrestlers like Vince did. Speculation based off other franchises. (DC, Marvel, etc) I do think in Sting’s case as far as Jazwares goes they might not have the rights to certain 6” Sting looks because they are part of WWE’s Intellectual Properties. Because of their purchase of the WCW library so they “own” those. But because Sting owns his likeness they (Mattel) can’t make those looks either because he owned his likeness and would need to be under a contract for Mattel to release them. At least that’s what I think is happening. If Sting owns his own likeness (and perhaps the scorpion logo?) then couldn't they do a generic/fantasy Sting? He's not like WWF Hulk Hogan who pretty much wore the same attire every show. There are likely 100s of Sting outfits and facepant combos that he wore back in the day. Just create one that replicates the essence of the character. I'd buy that. EDIT: They could even ask Sting to "design" it himself as part of an advertising gimmick.

A. He ain't coming back.
B. My "buddy" who has a merch license with AEW has updated me; There can be no "Surfer Sting" figures or other merch made by AEW or anyone besides WWE. Apparently Sting signed something that gives WWE the rights to that intellectual property.
Just tellin' you what I've heard, not sure I 100% believe it, but it sure does look that way. I'm certainly not a copyright lawyer.

Someone should ask him this question on Twitter. Unfortunately, I don’t have a Twitter account.

I doubt most people would be able to differentiate which specific year it’s from. I’m also surprised that Jazwares never released a singlet Sting, he wore a singlet when he first arrived to AEW. They keep releasing the same damn figure over and over.

I really doubt he comes back. I want him to but i feel he's going to be with aew for the rest of his life. They are paying him crazy money compared to what wwe was. And I'm sure Tony would counter off big money just to keep him under a deal after he retires.

Am I content with the ones we got? Yes. I love the DM Crow Sting, but I wish we would've gotten some better proportioned Surfer Stings.

I don't think he's ever coming back guys.
Wish I could be wrong. But I see a set of road warrior ultimates coming before sting ever gets Mattel figures again.

This is fantasy booking of course, BUT! If Mattel has the rights to make Great Muta and they get Sting back under a deal…🤯🤯🤯 that’s an absolute Dream scenario!! An ultimate edition 2-pack of this would be amazing.

Think many would agree his brief stint in WWE might be the worst run of his entire career.

Come back and sign a deal where we can get figures through Mattel. Fair enough. If/when he does resign with them, you have to believe they will give him the Hogan treatment where during the first stint they didn't even scratch the surface when it came to getting out more figures of him, but now Mattel is literally pumping out new Hogans like they're Skittles.

And 2 "Surfer" shirts that said AEW on them. The first one was in a PWT crate and the 2nd one was up for order on the PWTs website but was pulled after a few weeks of being on sale. Last months crate had a Crow Sting shirt that was clearly from his WCW run, but it doesn't say AEW on it.

I'd really like to get him in his Starrcade 87 gear and face paint, hopefully they round him out with Jimmy Garvin and Micheal P.S Hayes

Maybe a updated Great American bash 90 as a ultimate with starrcade 97. But I would like a defining moments clash of the champions 1. A cactus jack vs sting from beach blast 92 championship showdown would be cool. Maybe even a starrcade 89 with the multi color scorpion with yellow boots?
