The Pro-Wrestling Ring set was released by Marubu in 2022. There are five ring sets to collect.



Argentine Backbreaker.
Lariat.
German Suplex.




Giant Swing & Sasori-gatame.



Like other gashapons, each figure comes with a mini booklet showcasing all five ring sets to collect.



Each ring comes with a grasp at the bottom; allowing collectors to wear the ring like a ringpop.

Present a matching ring to your beau and this set could make ideal wedding rings (or not...).

New Japan Pro-Wrestling has made bath time fun again with rubber ducks stylized to resemble the promotion's biggest stars:




Clockwise: Kazuchika Okada, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Tetsuya Naito, "King of Darkness" EVIL & Hiromu Takahashi.

Riki Choshu's company RIKIPRO (connected to Ingram, which handles many of today's Wrestling-related licenses in Japan) has released
three plush keychains based on the legend.



The keychain comes in three versions. Raised fist, RIKIPRO T-shirt variant & ring attire versions.

Each keychain features a specific soundbite from Choshu himself. The three clips are catchphrases Choshu has become famous during his
post-Wrestling career in conjunction with Choshu's appearances on Tiktok, Twitter and various Japanese variety shows.




My trip down the Riki Choshu rabbit hole continued as I discovered yet another recently-released Riki Choshu plush figure:




No, Riki Choshu isn't ready to go golfing. Presented here is a recent Riki Choshu plush modeled after Choshu's appearance in the
2022 animated comedy show Good Luck, Choshu-kun! (がんばれ！長州くん).

Two size variants of the Good Luck, Choshu-kun! plush figure were released.



As one might expect, Choshu's animated cartoon features tons of merchandise. From keychains, tote bags, and even
buttons. All of which were released by CSBOY/C.



The company 'CSBOY/C' is a shortened version of 'Choshu Boy'.

I still find it odd thinking of a retired 72 year old Japanese Wrestling legend as a boy again; but I guess that's part of Good luck, Choshu-kun!'s charm.





Riki Choshu isn't the only famous Japanese Wrestler getting in on the cartoon shenanigans. Keiji Mutoh's official store MUTO OFFICE is currently selling t-shirts
of Keiji Mutoh and Riki Choshu. Both of whom have appeared as a pairing in Japanese comedy skits alongside the likes of Genichiro Tenryu and Masahiro
Chono.

For the HAO and 16d diehards out there, I would like to present another figure most of you have probably never seen before:



Fighting Spirit Legend Vol. 2. Antonio Inoki figure strap.

In Japan, this figure is known as:
闘魂伝説第2弾 アントニオ猪木 フィギュアストラップ

This figure strap was released by IMA Corporation around 2006. IMA were responsible for the Polystone statues of K-1 fighters.



The back of the packaging features the most interesting part: an advertisement for the HAO Collection Antonio Inoki retirement commemorative
statue.

Here, the Inoki statue is listed as 闘魂伝説第1弾★ アントニオ猪木 リアルフィギュア (Fighting Spirit Legend Vol. 1. Antonio Inoki Real Figure).

Antonio Inoki was the only Pro-Wrestler released between IMA Corporation and the HAO Collection (Kennichi Hao, the sculptor behind HAO and 16d
figures landed his first major sculpting gig creating K-1 figures as early as 1998).

The closest thing the line has is GoodSmile's Wonder Festival; which is a Japanese toyshow that promotes upcoming releases of GoodSmile products.
Usually, 16d prototypes are shown, but nothing that was already put up for pre-sale on GoodSmile's website...

Two years ago, we had two Great Kabuki's and a Bruiser Brody figure to look forward to. We also had the bronze and gold AJPW 50th anniversary lottery
figures to hunt down as well. This season just doesn't pack the same punch.

Another thing to consider is that each figure mold is sculpted by just one guy. Some figures are listed as going through an approval process. Wrestlers like
Stan Hansen, NOSAWA and Minoru Suzuki have approved of their figures before release (though, I'm sure they were more concerned with the amount of
royalties they were getting for their figures ).

The figures' selling point is also their downfall; as each figure is sculpted by just one guy: Kennichi Hao.

Hao started working on figures for K-1 around 1998. The company's name was IMA Corporation, who specialized in figures for K-1 until
Character Product stepped in by the early 2000's. Fast forward to the new millennium, and Hao branched out to releasing statues for
Japanese singers, swimsuit models, comedy personalities and Baseball teams.

After building up a reputation for a few years, Hao created the HAO Collection company around 2003; a banner that focused on releasing
figures primarily for Pro-Wrestling and MMA promotions. Some of the earliest licensees included NJPW, AJPW, K-1, and PRIDE.

When looking at the corporate info for HAO's head office on the packaging for the HAO COllection Antonio Inoki retirement statue, I believe
the address was the same as IMA Corporation; who worked side-by-side with HAO into the 2000's.

HAO Collection would continue on for another decade or so. Some of the last Wrestling releases that come to mind were the polystone anniversary
statues of legends like Keiji Mutoh, Nobuhiko Takada, Riki Choshu, Andy Hug, Mitsuharu Misawa and Masahiro Chono that made their way to
production. These statues popped up around 2010 (Misawa) to 2012 (Choshu).

By 2016, the HAO Collection banner was nowhere to be seen, and two new soft vinyl figures of Genichiro Tenryu were commissioned to be made by
HAO. At the time, 16d didn't exist yet. Instead, the Tenryu figures were released under the 'Pro-Kaku Heroes' banner - the same banner used by
Character Product for their Mini Big Heads line; along with New Japan's Kazuchika Okada and Shinsuke Nakamura action figures and Mini Big

Head spin-off figures.

In 2018, the 16d Collection was started. 16d is short for 16 directions, which is a product manufacturer name for a parent company called
ジュウロクホウイ (Jyurokuhoui). Jyurokuhoui focuses on more than just Wrestling figures. The company also releases merchandise for NISSAN,

New Japan, various animes, etc.

16d Collection is a spinoff of HAO Collection. Unlike Mattel or Storm Collectibles, figure making isn't Jyurokuhoi's only priority.

In 2020, an American fan tried to resurrect the HAO brand by creating HAO Collectibles. The first batch of figures were intended to be based on

modern MMA fighters. As of 2024, I don't know if any of the figures ever made it out of production. Instead, the shikishi boards that were

supposed to be bundled with them were sold off individually to hardcore collectors.

The soft vinyl Wrestling figure portion of HAO's work can be best summarized as an era between 2003 - 2008 for the bulk of it's original run.

By that point in time, Wrestling had entered a commercial slump in Japan, and the demand for Wrestling figures was at a lowpoint in the

country.

That attempt was for Figures of Dan Henderson , Gary Goodridge & Shogun Rua. They needed 500 pre orders to hit minimum for them to go into production and failed miserably.
The fan who tried to do this seemed in over his head and only focused on older mma/ pride stars.

I think he Would have had a better chance to get it launched by going for wrestlers to start.

Thank you for the kind words. Since 2016, I've been blogging about my love of collecting Japanese Wrestling figures. It's great being able to share that very passion with all of you here,
as well as the ability to shed some light on figures that not many collectors are aware of.

As someone who sold countless HAO/16d figures over the years, I was scratching my head at the start of the fan-created HAO Collectibles brand. Outside of Japan, only a small pocket
of collectors truly cared about MMA or Kickboxing figures designed by HAO. Even in Japan, the most popular HAO figures are those based on Pro-Wrestlers. Legends like Don Frye, Fedor
Emelianenko, Rampage Jackson and Bob Sapp are just a few exceptions to the rule.

To paint a clearer picture of HAO's popularity in the west before the 16d line was invented, I started a thread here around 2016 talking about HAO figures. The first response that I got was:

"What the hell is a HAO?"


I know nothing of figure licensing, but I can only imagine licensing recognizable Wrestlers would have been pricier. Add the ordeal of trying to procure licensing rights with Wrestlers already
under contract with the WWE and Ingram (the producer of soft vinyl WWE-licensed sofubi's in Japan), and I can only imagine the difficulty of bringing such a project to life.

It seems outside of Japan, the only vinyl Wrestling figures that have remained successful are those created by Funko or Pro-Wrestling Tee's.


Moving on, here's more obscure Japanese figures not currently archived:


Antonio Inoki Omikuji Figure Strap

Known in Japan as:
アントニオ猪木のおみくじ フィギュアストラップ






These 4cm figure straps were sold exclusively at Japanese convenience store LAWSON around 2010. Omikuji are the equivalent of good luck/Pay Day cat figures in Japan.
Who better to grant the people of Japan good luck other than Inoki himself?

This version features Inoki with a red base and Inoki's iconic "1...2...3....DAAAAaaa!" battlecry pose.

Each figure stands about 4cm tall.


The back of the omikuji figure contains a tag with the text "山害 人間なんでもできる", which loosely translates to "man can do
anything". This may have been a famous quote of Inoki's as well.



The second version features Inoki with a blue base and double raised arms pose. I'm actually relieved the creators didn't get lazy and simply
repaint Inoki's fight towel to blue (as they've done with other Inoki figures in the past).

Both figures are licensed by IGF; Inoki's licensing brand.



Packaging for both variants.



The packaging contains a pamphlet for related products and promotions.

Just when I thought I seen all of Character Product's Mini Big Head figures, I find another obscurity related to the line.


Antonio Inoki Bottlecap Figure Keyholder

Known in Japan as:
アントニオ猪木 ボトルキャップフィギュアキーホルダー


This figure was released in 2003.




The Inoki bottlecap figure looks nearly-identical to Character Product (back when they were known as Toukon Shop)'s Antonio Inoki figure
(1970's version) that was released several years prior in 1999.



The surface of the red base reads February 20th, 2003 (Antonio Inoki's 60th birthday).



There is also a variant with a gold base. I would imagine this is the rarer version of an already rare figure.



Around the same time, Inoki international re-released the Inoki 70's figure to also commemorate the legend's birthday; bundling Inoki with a commemorative
display base, NWF Heavyweight Championship belt, and collector-friendly packaging.

This is the first time I've ever seen this figure in it's original box.

While things are quiet on the 16d front, I thought I'd liven up this thread with more obscure Japanese promotional figures.


Antonio Inoki Air Salonpas Ex Bottlecaps


Air Salonpas is a spray-on pain reliever. In the early 2000's, Antonio Inoki was a spokesman for Salonpas. As such, five bottlecaps
were created in Inoki's likeness.


From left to right:

The grey shirt Inoki figures are based on Inoki's promo photo endorsing Salonpas.

Inoki can be seen in the same red tracksuit with the following commercial from 2002.





The original bottlecap package. The blindbag packaging mentions that there are five figures to collect.

So, if you're looking for a product targeted towards adult sports fans, with kid-friendly anime-styled cuteness and a pain reliever tie-in,
the Inoki Air Salonpas figures are for you.

Very few Wrestlers in Japan could touch the level of product that has featured Inoki's image over the last 60 years. A number of figures that is easy to
lose track of.

Here's another Japanese figure some of you may have never seen before.

Antonio Inoki Sound Bank 2001 Millennium Model

Known in Japan as:
アントニオ猪木 サウンドバンク

The closest thing to having the real Antonio Inoki shouting his famous catchphrases in your home. This sound bank was released in 2001.



The packaging mentions that this is the 2001 millennium model.

As for advertising, the box also displays two soundbites 'arigato' and '1-2-3-Daaa!'. The top left corner states that inserting a
coin will play Inoki's Inoki Bom-Ba-Ye theme song, too.






The packaging can be broken up into a shelve display and a regular box. Extra steps were certainly taken to make sure this bank wasn't broken in transit.

The back of the box provides a brief bio on Inoki's Wrestling career. Even mentioning Rikidozan discovering a young Inoki while on a Wrestling excursion in Brazil.

Coins are placed into the back of the bank, which then activates a sound clip of one of Inoki's catchphrases.



It's quite common to find these obscurities still polybagged.



To give you an idea on scale, the Inoki sound bank placed next to the HAO Collection Inoki statue and Sound Money Bank figures.

Bringing more Japanese figures to everyone's awareness:


Fighting Spirit Legend Antonio Inoki Bull Bull Agoism Plushie

Known in Japan as: 闘魂伝承 ブルブル アゴイズム アントニオ猪木 ぬいぐるみ



Has success gone to this plushie's head?

One of the most bizarre Inoki plushies created by TAKARA.

The plush features Inoki wearing his red and white robe from Inoki's 1998 retirement match against Don Frye.

The bottom of the packaging states that by pressing the plushie's head, it's jaw will start to tremble.



A second variant of the Inoki plush also exists.



This variant features Inoki wearing a red and gold. Inoki began wearing this robe around 1986, and it has been featured
in several Inoki figures over the years.

These Antonio Inoki plushes come with a suction cup that attaches each figure to any glass surface.

There are four variants of this plush available.



The first version features Inoki in ring gear with his fight towel.

Each plush comes with a hangtag that displays a graphic of Antonio Inoki from his retirement match.
The back of the tag includes Inoki's stats.

I can't help but feel Inoki's face looks closer to Jerry Seinfeld here...




The second version features Inoki in ring gear without his fight towel.









The third version features Inoki in ring gear with arms raised.



The fourth and final version depicts Inoki in his 1998 retirement match robe.


New Japan Pro-Wrestling have created another unique set of collectibles:

New Japan Pro-Wrestling Golf Covers




With golf being huge in Japan, it was only a matter of time before New Japan Pro-Wrestling started pairing up with
one of Japan's most popular leisurely activities.

The first version features the New Japan lion mascot wearing a traditional NJPW raglan staff t-shirt.



New Japan's lion mascot is also available decked out in Tetsuya Naito's Los Ingobernables de Japon attire.



Would you go golfing with these adorable mascots?



Out of curiosity, I discovered that WWE-endorsed golf head covers also exist. It's only fitting that Mick Foley has four of them.



Running a google search on 'Crun Golf Wrestling' will provide images of other golf covers inspired by WWE legends.
None of which seems to be officially endorsed.




I won't go into full detail on Swag's WWE golf collection here. Though, Swag has an impressive line of golf driver, mallet and blade covers available.
WWE legends include:

Pony Shop is a store in Japan that is renown for selling 16d figures.



Advertisements for 16d figures of Stan Hansen, Bruiser Brody and Antonio Inoki outside Pony Shop's storefront.



I first discovered the Pony Shop a few years ago when I was trying to hunt down the Poisonous Fog version of The Great Kabuki 16d figure.
For months, this variant was unavailable from GoodSmile's Global store after release. Unless you visited Pony Shop's Japanese website
and picked up an exclusive bundle that featured an autographed shikishi board signed by The Great Kabuki himself.



Pony Shop also sells acrylic display cases designed specifically for 16d figures.

These cases are called 'Pony Original' cases; which means they are not officially endorsed products licensed by 16d or HAO.

Since 16d figures were inspired by the massive success of Funko Pops, one of the major selling points for the acrylic cases is the ability to stack figures.
Much like how collectors stack Funko Pops.



There's also a rectangular display case that can support three to four 16d figures.

I doubt Pony Shop ships outside of Japan (without the use of a middleman service like Buyee), but here's a link to the store:

Going further into the crazy world of Japanese Professional Wrestling figures and collectibles, I present another plethora of Puroresu rarities.
The manufacturer of all of these collectibles is a Japanese company called History Maker.

Kenta Kobashi Fortune KK 1/26 Scale Mini Statue (2017)



The first item pertinent to this thread is the 1/26 scale Kenta Kobashi Mini Statue. The Kenta Kobashi statue was crafted using the lost wax casting method with Kobashi's
likeness captured with 3D scanning technology. The tiny Kobashi statue is made of aluminum bronze and stands 6cm tall (about 2.3 inches, making it a minifigure scale-wise).

This figure was released in 2017 in conjunction with Kenta Kobashi's role with his newly-established Fortune KK promotion.

If I recall, less than 50 of these figures were made, making them some of the rarest Kenta Kobashi figure ever released. Good luck finding one in the wild!

Tetsuya Naito (Left Arm -Abre los ojos-) sculpture (2020)



History Maker strives for realism with their products. One of the earliest examples of History Maker's 1/1 scale hand sculpts featured Tetsuya Naito.

Naito's signature hand poses are faithfully recreated, even down to the blood vessels. This particular variant is called 'Right Arm Abre los ojos'
(which means 'open your eyes' in Spanish).

The Naito hand sculpt stands 9 inches tall and is made of silzin bronze with a wood base. The attached gold plaque includes the Los Ingobernables de
Japan faction logo, along with a facsimile of Naito's signature.



Naito's arm sculpture was the first collaboration between New Japan and History Maker back in 2020.

Likewise, a 1/1 sculpture of Tetsuya Naito's other iconic pose was also replicated. The wood base again features a facsimile of Naito's signature and the Los Ingobernables
logo.

 

This version is known as 'Nosotros' (or we in Spanish), and stands 29cm (about 11 inches) tall.

Hiroshi Tanahashi Right Arm Sculpture (2020)



A sculpture of New Japan great Hiroshi Tanahashi was created the same year. The base features the New Japan logo and Tanahashi's signature with included inscriptions.



The precision and realism offered in these sculptures is eerily-spooky.

Tanahashi's hand sculpture stands 34cm (about 13 inches) tall.

Riki Choshu Mini Riki Lariat Keychain (2020)



Offering more than just faithful 1/1 scale recreations, History Maker also released miniature molds of their Wrestler arm sculpts into compact
keychain format.

As usual, the Riki Choshu keychain contains a recreation of Choshu's signature raised fist taunt.

The base contains Choshu's signature, and the attached clip contains Riki Choshu's RIKIPRO licensing logo. The keychain measures about
4.3cm (1 inch) and is made of bronze.

Riki Choshu Hand Statue (2020)



Choshu's sculpture (marketed as a 'statue' here on Maker's shop page) stands 33cm (12 inches) in height. Like the other castings in this line, the base of Choshu's sculpture
contains a recreation of Choshu's signature.


Riki Choshu Paper Weight (2020)




Now things are getting extra creepy. What looks like a smiling death mask is actually a stainless steel paperweight.
The paperweight comes in two versions: "EARNEST CHOSHU" and "SMILE CHOSHU".



Scale-wise, these paper weights are about 3 inches (8cm).

Masahiro Chono Hand Statue (1/1 scale) I AM CHONO.ver (2021)



Like fellow legend Keiji Mutoh, Masahiro Chono was known for his charismatic personality, various factions and hand symbols.

This bronze 1/1 sculpture stands 32cm (12 inches) tall and contains a replica of Chono's actual signature on the base.



The 'I AM CHONO' version is a nod to Chono's pointing thumb taunt.


Masahiro Chono Hand Statue (1/1 scale) TEAM2000.ver (2021)



The second variant features a 1/1 cast of Chono's signature 'TEAM2000' taunt.

For those that don't know, TEAM2000 was Masahiro Chono's attempt to create a new stable of Wrestlers that would feud with the Keiji Mutoh-led NWO Japan.




Scale-wise, the TEAM2000 version stands 32cm (12 inches) tall.



Masahiro Chono 3D Paper Weight (2021)



Masahiro Chono was the second stainless steel paper weight based on a New Japan-turned pop culture celebrity.

The two types available are: "EARNEST CHONO" and "ANGRY CHONO".



History Maker's product info states that the Chono paperweights measure around 30cm (11 inches with box presumably).



Skull Reaper A-ji 3D Face Sticker & Magnet (2020)



Japanese Professional Wrestler Skull Reaper was converted into a 3D printed sticker and magnet combination. History Maker
advertises that Reaper's likeness was captured using a “Stratasys J750" scanner "equipped with the latest modeling technology".

The Skull Reaper magnet is 7cm (about 2.5 inches) in length.


Riki Choshu 3D Face sticker (2020)

The Revolutionary Warrior and modern day social media personality Riki Choshu was History Maker's next 3D scanned Pro-Wrestler.

There are three variants of the Riki Choshu 3D Magnet sticker: “SMILE RIKI CHOSHU”, “EARNEST RIKI CHOSHU” and “RIKI CHOSHU WITH MASK”.

Like the Skull Reaper 3D sticker, Choshu's sticker measures to about 2.7 inches (7cm).

We briefly discussed the Mitsuharu Misawa and Masahiro Chono figures in the past. If i recall at the time, the figures were created by a site called IRON FACTORY.
Well, the actual company (as of 2024) is now known as History Maker.



Each figure stands 15cm (5.9 inches) tall and is marketed as the most-realistic Chono figure ever made. There are three versions of the 3D printed Masahiro
Chono figure: “NORMAL”, “I AM CHONO” and “I WANT YOU”.
