Wow, ok, well there it is. And I suppose we're going to have to suffer through another round of influencers telling us that "it isn't that bad" lol Yup! Everyone destroyed that MEGO Andre a couple years ago and these andre’s look worse and ‘influnencers’ are giving it a pass. Did Kyle go easy on this one too? Yeah pretty much, as expected. He said it was an improvement over the previous figure and tiptoed around the obvious. Whatever. He did mention the Mego figure too lol.

Imo pixel Dan is the only one who it’s worth listening to in the influencer space - he’s honest
He is a huge motu fan and got invited by Mattel to the 40th anniversary tour if mattel etc yet if they put out sonething sub par he calls it out.
Likewise he was a big motu classics fan but still called duper 7 out when necessary.

I liked kyles reviews initially but then you realize if you seen one you’ve seen them all. Nothing is bad, nothing is best. He doesn’t really say anything of substance just churning out content for that YouTube $.

I appreciate someone having early access and posting up close pictures of things. His collection is beyond impressive. That said, I can see how or why he has the reputation for saying nothing. He still gets views, he still gets free merch, and as long as he doesn’t rock the boat, things will keep going that way for years to come. How can you begrudge someone for that?

@Chair.ShotNo hate here. Yes, His collection is ridiculously impressive! Just saying Kyle’s content grew redundant with me despite discussing different figures it felt like the same review over. Doesn’t rock the boat which is what some folks like. Kyle has everything and usually has it early so he does well providing a ‘first look’. Props to him for finding his niche.

Is there anyone who dies honest reviews? Not having a pop at Kyle or anyone but even the major bros this week said about zst one of them had the cape peeling off the tattoos and two said “it wouldn’t bother me” and within 5 mins were saying zombie makes a premium line and the best figures on the market.
Compare that to them going to town on a bubble peeling on the Chella Adam bomb and it’s obvious the bias comes in and you can’t trust their reviews to be genuine anymore.
Kyle is obviously going easy on super7 as pointed out.
Again don’t care all that much about them, but does anyone have a reviewer they trust that they can look at before deciding? I’d be keen to know if I’m ever on the fence I could go somewhere for an honest review.

I think Super7 heard Mattel was doing an ultimate Andre and just told the factory to stop painting

Imo it goes 3 ways if your going to ‘review’ figures while having ties with the companies: You review the figures with clear bias - like majors and others losing integrity You review the figures honestly - like pixel Dan You say you’ll steer clear of commenting on lines your associated with I’ve said before in this thread but really can’t put Dan over enough imo, however he isn’t all wrestling but does touch upon it. I also like how he’s not an attention or drama whore. This post from his Twitter a day or so ago shows the type of guy he is, especially the last line: “ Hi everyone. I've received multiple requests to appear on podcasts/channels to discuss the "rumors" about MOTU Origins. This post is me politely declining all of these requests. It's not personal. I just don't want to play into that narrative. Please just enjoy your toys.”

I saw this figure in person at Newbury Comics yesterday. It is truly horrific in person and seeing the price tag of nearly $70 made it even worse.

He would get free early figures to review all the time during the Classics days and even wrote an official Mattel book. Anyway, PD always struck me as cut from the same cloth as Kyle Petersen...he doesn't want to offend anyone. He does seem like a nice guy (kyle as well), and yeah, he does point out issues...as far as objective issues, yes but never really too critical or editorializing about anything really.

I’ve seen plenty of videos where dans called out mattel for choices and problems with figures. That’s what I mean, being on good terms, accepting review figures free etc is all fine as long as you’ll call out issues. If you don’t then that’s where issues arise Example: Majors say it’s ok if the cape and tattoos peel off a figure Dan criticised mattek for the way the new Eternia he man was packaged as it left his loincloth sticking out from being in the package and that position for so long (although it could be bent back) Majors ignore sabu not standing well Dan pointed out the new eternia two bad has the incorrect figure height (for those not aware, two bad was two characters magically fused together so it’s one body with two heads) where the incorrect character is taller Powertown figures break by looking at them / super 7 andre is horrendous yet both are excused. Dan is far more unbiased eveb though he’s on good terms with mattel Also his book and James eatock’s filmation books are both great 👍

Yeah,I don't see much of a difference with almost all the influencers/reviewers. They've all over looked something because they don't wanna step on any toes that might come back to bite them in the long run and I get it. They wanna keep building their channels and bring in more $$$$.

Dan pointed out the new eternia two bad has the incorrect figure height (for those not aware, two bad was two characters magically fused together so it’s one body with two heads) where the incorrect character is taller Two-Bad isn't exactly the wrong height. The New Eternia figure is just a new version of the character. It was only the 200X version that had Tuvar/the blue side taller than Baddrah/the purple side.

Your correct, but I would say that line created a lot of new cannon lore such as Keldor and his relation to randor/Adam etc and that line has as you say tuvar taller, in filmation and initial figure form they were the same I was more using it to illustrate how Dan will comment on aspects of figures v others who are all positive and ignore issues or thing which could be construed as less than positive

Like with the Super7 Thundercats he didn't really mention the height issue of most o the figures being the wrong height. The 200X cartoon was awesome. The Keldor relation was also in the vintage minicomics.

All this talk of influencers and fig reviewers, does any actual adult (16 and over) actually buy items based on someone else’s opinions? Im not sure in my 30+ years of collecting ive ever been swayed by someone elses pics or reviews from purchasing an item of any kind, especially action figures and collectibles

Im not sure in my 30+ years of collecting ive ever been swayed by someone elses pics or reviews from purchasing an item of any kind, especially action figures and collectibles I feel like most people watching reviews just want to see the figure they're interested in being handled and in angles other than what they've been seeing in the promo pics, how it scales with other figures, potential issues, if the accessories enhance or are they useless, that sort of thing.

Im not sure in my 30+ years of collecting ive ever been swayed by someone elses pics or reviews from purchasing an item of any kind, especially action figures and collectibles If you’re new to a line it can sometimes be helpful if someone does a review and compares to another version of the figure, or maybe even if your not new to a line you may have missed a figure. E.g, Dan does ‘comparison time’ when he will compare a new figure he’s reviews to other iterations. That can help you get a sense of scale, or maybe see an iteration you prefer. However if I don’t like a figure but a review says it’s good I don’t change my opinion. It’s wrong to suggest someone over a certain age wouldn’t pay interest to a review - otherwise companies in all different industries wouldn’t spend money producing snd sending out review units - films, music, computer games etc all have reviews because people use them to help form an opinion. People use reviews of insurance and financial products which are very much aimed at a young adult + market Classic rock magazine has tons of reviews and is firmly aimed at the older generation of 30+ Retro gamer has reviews and as the name suggests is aimed at an approaching middle age and older generation Even Amazon or Google reviews or eBay feedback is a form of review

Andre The Fetus... Yikes...
He seriously looks like a baby with jaundice. It's really not OK.
Stuff like this is why I've basically stopped pre-ordering Super7 stuff- the quality control is wildly inconsistent, and you can't trust prototype photos- just not excusable for the exorbitant prices they're charging. Too many issues with paint and loose joints on $50+ figures. I love Thundercats, but I'll wait until I can check out the paint jobs in-person at a convention or store, so I can at least check out the paint jobs. I always want a few Silverhawks figures- same thing. Unfortunately, with those licenses, there aren't other options- the fact that we can get MUCH better Andres from Mattel for much less money really hammers home how bad the Super7 ones are.
