I’m sure there was a thread about concerts but it seems to have done a Lindsay Lohan impression and faded away to nothing. So now that Covid is over and bands are touring again, the concert thread may as well make a comeback.
Are there any bands you’ve got tickets to, or have seen this year post pandemic?
24 hours ago I was finally able to cross Billy Joel off my concert bucket list last night (still got Aerosmith and John Fogerty to go) which was his first show in NZ in 14 years. Hearing 40,000 people sing the last chorus to Piano Man was really something. If the stadium had a roof, it would have come off when he kicked into Uptown Girl.
Seven days later in the same stadium, I’ll be seeing Guns N Roses for the sixth time. No mic throwing from Axl this time though. And in just over a month, I'll see Elton John make his return after three years. When I saw him back in 2020, he had to finish the show early and cancel the rest of the remaining shows due to losing his voice.

I got tickets for John Mellencamp in February and tickets for the George Strait/Chris Stapleton Nashville show in July.

I don't have anything planned right now, but I'll see what comes up.

I'm a member of a local concert series. I've seen quite a few acts during the pandemic era. They didn't have anything during 2020 but they resumed in 2021

Went to the Motley Crue Stadium Tour in Buffalo back in August. Pretty cool to finally get to see them since being put on hiatus for over 2 years.

This may sound like the dumbest thing ever, but I have never been to a concert before so, is there an average length to the shows? Or does it vary drastically depending on which concert it is?

Depending on the artist/band, it could run anywhere from 45 minutes to well over 2 hours. There's a punk band called The Dwarves. The lead singer has been known to dive into the drum kit after the 3rd or 4th song, ending their set. But fans of the band are prepared for that. Then there are guys like Bruce Springsteen or Billy Joel who will play close to (or over) 2 hours.

It can vary depending on the genre and how long the band has been around. If you're seeing a new band then probably around an hour. Standard length for a major band is around two hours. Pop artists I've seen, Taylor, Miley, Katy, and Dua Lipa, have all been around 90 minutes. Some play a bit longer though if you're lucky. When I saw Bon Jovi in 2010, they were doing 2.5 hour shows. Guns N Roses also hit the 2.5 hour mark too now since their reunion. I've seen Bruce Springsteen three times and each show was around three and a half hours.

Saw Guns N Roses for the sixth time this weekend. They played for just over three hours which is pretty impressive considering the flack that Axl has gotten for his vocals over the last few years. Despite that, he was firing on all cylinders that night. Only problem is that it absolutely poured down prior to them hitting the stage and dumbass me thought a poncho wasn't necessary seeing as it was sunny that morning, even though it was forecasted to rain that night.
