As I sit here and watch "The Replacements" for the umpteenth time, I am singing the songs in the movie and love how they set the scenes off so perfectly. It got me to thinking, where in the past soundtracks were imperative, a cultural crossover of the times, they seem to be much less so, from what I have seen lately, minus a song or 2 in each. What in the world happened? The soundtracks used to be a companion piece of greatness you would buy to enjoy further until you could buy the movie. They had exclusive songs from your favorite bands, or just an insanely well meshed compilation of well known and unknown that spoke to you. The flicks lately, minus Marvel movies, and movies from oldschoolers are barely even using scores, let alone creating those connections to other parts of our lives. I am an old soul, but I know kids love this generation of music, so let it flow! Bring back the heart! Have there been movies using music to the fullest, or tv shows, that I have just missed? On a side note I am wondering what is the most memorable soundtrack for yall and why? Armageddon for me. Aerosmith killed that track on there, and me and my grandma had many a good day singing along to those songs driving all over town. I hope this is an interesting topic for yall. I know JC Motors will have a good take. Cheers. VPV

Replacements is such a good movie.
Peacemaker is the most recent (and potentially obvious) one for me. James Gunn nailed each episode's music choices beyond perfectly.
Scrubs was always great for finding the perfect music to accompany that episodes certain feel.
Black Panther and Guardians of the Galaxy really nailed the soundtracks for each of their movies (created and compilated respectively)
I don't know if its necessarily a soundtrack but I really loved Kingsman Golden Circles use of "Country Roads"

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood instantly comes to mind. Pretty much the only soundtrack I'll constantly listen to.

Licensing fees plays a big part of why movies don't use songs. And while sometimes they will lower the fee for some smaller budget movies, it's still hard for them to justify spending 5-6 figures to use a song.
I can't really think of anything recent that stands out to me. I can think of the usual suspects like Dazed and Confused, Goodfellas, The Big Lebowski. A personal favorite is Good Will Hunting but I really like Elliott Smith and he isn't for everyone. I really enjoyed Drive now that I think about it.

Mortal Kombat (1995) is probably my favorite soundtrack that I can think of. I've listened to Halcyon On & On by Orbital at least 100 times and I still love it, Blood and Fire by Type O Negative, Psykosonik, KMFDM, The Immortals Techno Syndrome, etc. Such a bangin soundtrack. 🔥

I'm more of a film score soundtrack guy vs a Various Artists soundtrack. Some of the best movies to have a various artists soundtrack was Forrest Gump. O Brother Where Art Thou. The Titanic soundtrack went diamond. However that soundtrack mainly was a success not because of James Horner's score, but that Celine Dion song. However the 1997 soundtrack is junk because it is missing a ton of score tracks. The La La Land Records 4 disc limited edition Titanic Soundtrack fixes that problem. It has everything but that Celine Dion song.

The use of Ennio Morricone's scoring helped add so much to those movies. The original trilogy of Star Wars and Indiana Jones also so how good a scored soundtrack adds to a movie. In terms of soundtracks with various artists, one that I'd add was the one from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The song choices worked so well for the time period and subject of the movie.

Without Morricone's score for it, it might not be the classic it is.

This thread is going great. Thanks guys!
Is there a song that should have been on a soundtrack or score, that would have been better than what they used for that scene?
