Watched Texas Chainsaw Massacre II for the first time. Not sure if that was the worst, the silliest, the most tonally different, or somehow the best sequel ever made. Possibly all four. My favorite film in the series. Hooper just said “ it, if I’m doing a sequel I don’t want it to feel the same.” It’s over the top. The humor is dark. Chop Top is twisted. Batsh** crazy Dennis Hopper is fantastic. Leatherface gets more depth and Stretch is a great final girl. Plus Drayton gets more time to shine. It’s such a fun movie. It’s funny two because earlier in the year I made this person I was talking who hasn’t watched any of the films in the series watch the first two back to back and it blew their mind that they were made by the same guy.

I think maybe the ballsiest thing about the film is Bill Moseley just going for it and out-Dennis Hoppering Dennis Hopper.

Chainsaw 2 has gotta be in my top 10 Horror films of all time. I remember seeing that movie for the first time in the 8th grade, and the part with Leatherface charging out of that room during Chop Tops opening scene scared the hell out of me. Fast forward about 13 years later when I saw the movie again...and that jump scare STILL got me.
I think it's so cool during the opening scene where Rick the Prick shoots the Dallas/Mesquite sign, because I was born in Dallas and raised in Mesquite.
Awesome soundtrack, Tom Savini, Lefty rules, Stretch is great, and Chop Top is so gnarly. My only nitpick is Leatherface is kinda weak and that damn dance he does...but still. Bangin movie.

I also love Moseleys Drayton impression. I would have loved to be in the theaters when this came out to see people’s reactions. I’m sure many expected the same bleak artsy tone of the first. I so badly want a NECA Lefty figure with dual chainsaws.

I've seen it in theater twice, but both were with horror audiences and 30+ years after its debut; I wonder how much people really knew going into it originally. The trailer and the Breakfast Club parody on the poster give you some idea of what you're in for, and the tone is a better match for 1986 than the original's was, but it's so far afield from the original.

Reminds me a lot of watching Evil Dead and then watching Evil Dead II.

What I love about these new Halloween movies is that Michael doesn’t give a solitary about Laurie. Forty years ago she was just the first girl he saw after going home. Then after escaping 40 years later he only went after her because he was brought to her. Michael just wants to kill. No rhyme. No reason. So Laurie ruined her families life because she thought it was all about her. Now she’s going to go after him like she assumed he’d do to her all those years. “So Laurie ruined her families life because she thought it was all about her. Now she’s going to go after him like she assumed he’d do to her all those years.” Damn man. That’s good stuff. Haven’t thought about it that way yet.

I’m sure there’s a message there about trauma and the affect it can have on families. I’m pretty sure had he not been brought to her, Michael wouldn’t have come across Laurie at all. Until she inevitably hunted him down.

Peacock has an insane selection for horror right now including more the Universal Monster films. Might have a marathon tonight.

Just wanted to suggest a couple of creepy movies/shows. You can probably find them on Hulu, Peacock or Netflix.
Tales From the Darkside, pilot episode "Trick Or Treat". The witch scared the living crap out of me. Tales From the Darkside, season 1 episode 10. "A Case of the Stubborns". Excellent makeup job. Little House on the Prairie, season 3, episode 5. "The Moster of Walnut Grove". The way Mr. Olesen looks in Laura's nightmares is creepy as hell.
Dark Night of the Scarecrow (1981). For a made for TV movie, it gave me nightmares. Very creepy!
Salem's Lot (1979). Another TV movie that gave me nightmares for years. Just Google "Mr. Barlow" & you'll see why.
Tourist Trap (1979). I guess since I was young when I watched it, it scared the crap out of me. Still freaking creepy.

Highly recommend Netflix’s Midnight Mass to anyone that hasn’t watched it yet.

How does Pinhead rank with yall as a horror icon? I think he's often overlooked. It's always Michael, Jason, Freddy, Ghost Face, Leatherface, etc etc etc.

How does Pinhead rank with yall as a horror icon? Fairly low for me. He’s terrifying in the first film but looks kind of weak in the second. Outside those two, I haven’t really watched any of the Hellraisers.

I recently just watched all of the Nightmare on Elm street movies. They honestly do not hold up. I don’t have a problem with them being old, I just think the stories for most of them are boring. Freddy is also kind of a bitch that easily gets bamboozled by children.
Are there any die hard Nightmare on Elm street fans that can explain if I’m missing something in seeing the appeal?

Freddy is also kind of a bitch that easily gets bamboozled by children. Are there any die hard Nightmare on Elm street fans that can explain if I’m missing something in seeing the appeal? The problem with the series is they struck gold with the first film and then decided to beat the idea into the ground. Pretty quickly it became obvious that they wanted to cash in on Freddy as a character and didn’t really care about the actual story as much as they cared about pumping out movies. I love the first and have a soft spot for part 3/4. Part 2 is wildly considered one of the most homoerotic horror movies made, which makes it a fun watch. Part 5 and Freddys Dead are complete garbage which nothing redeemable about them. New Nightmare returns to appeal of the first film and takes it to another direction. I love Freddy vs Jason because it’s a lot of fun. The remake sucks so hard. The appeal at the end of the day though is people just like seeing Freddy, whether what surrounds him is good or bad. If you have the time, there’s a documentary about the Nightmare series called Never Sleep Again which dives into each film and the making of them. Someone actually uploaded it to YouTube.

I watched One Dark Night for the second time, since it's release in 1983. It's awful. I have no idea why I thought it was so cool as a 13 year old.
I also watched Poltergeist again. Its hard to believe that this was considered "cutting edge special effects" back in 1982.
