What's up all. Are the local news anchors, weathermen, etc., still celebs in your town? Are local newscasts still important to your city?
I live in a fairly small town in Texas, and can say here, they for sure are. You rarely see the anchors out and about, and they can be a bit standoffish, oddly, but our weatherman is the coolest. Even people that show up on the news are like pseudo-celebs down here.
Thought this might be fun to talk about with yall. Much respect.

I don't know if they are celebrities but I'm sure they have people going up to them when they are out.
If anyone is a local celebrity it's the ambulance chaser that has his ads everywhere and sponsors the Bucks and WWE when they come to Milwaukee.

We had a weather guy growing up that was kind of a local celebrity because he had a bit of a silly voice and would play it up for comedic effect. He's the type of guy that would be signing 8x10s at local fairs and might grand marshall a small town parade. My senior class got him to make a funny forecast for our senior video and make jokes about how you'll want to bring a coat because it'll be cold in the A wing. He's kinda shuffled off to doing like...really poorly produced webcasts for the weather now for some nothing news network, and last I heard, he worked in the men's department at Macy's.

This story got sadder with each sentence

Not in my town exactly, but there’s plenty celebrities that live or have lived within 30 minutes of me.
A while back, my brother and I went to the movies to see Civil War. As we were walking out of the theater, Sam Roberts and his wife were walking in.

There's one who lives in our town who is pretty popular at local events. You normally see him at gas stations or restaurants and people will go up to him and shake is hand. He's pretty personable so he's inviting to fans.
I've only ever seen a few in passing at events where they were working. I don't even know most of their names but know some faces. I remember my grandfather running down to catch one of the reporters at an event and the family members were all laughing at how ridiculous he was doing it. He told the guy a negative personal story about one of the anchor people on the show.

One of the meteorologists on Global News in Ontario used to be one of the Midnight Society kids on "Are You Afraid of the Dark?".

We have a local Weatherman who is on in the mornings on our ABC affiliate. He used to be a science teacher. He likes to act all goofy when he's on the air. He puts photoshopped pictures on the screen and likes to draw stuff too. Every year he rides his bike for charity for a care home for people with intellectual disabilities. Don't believe me that he's wacky? Just read his bio on the WNEP's website, you'll get the gist of the kind of person he is www.wnep.com/article/about-us/team-bios/joe-snedeker/523-cb2a993b-b9a9-47f9-bcb4-d58ff16536e1

Reminds me of an old sports anchor we had that was fun too. He didn't last long, sadly.

I don't know what happened to our local weatherman, but when I was a kid I once went to his kid's birthday party. The neighbors knew him, but I'm not sure how I ended up going.

For those that agree that YT vlog people are celebs, then local news people are celebs too.
