Another one that came to mind...
For me, the weakest part of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World was Michael Cera in the titular role. I feel like Cera is Hollywood's go-to when they need to typecast a "hapless nerd" character, which is fine I guess if all you got out of Scott Pilgrim was "hapless nerd". Early on, Scott is wrought with misplaced confidence and bravado that earns him the ire of those around him (who aren't blinded by his charm), none of which are characteristics Michael Cera has ever conveyed in the history of ever.

Considering the Godfather trilogy is filled with award nominated and winning performances and some of the best actors of that generation, Sofia Coppola sticks out less like a sore thumb than one with gangrene that needs immediate and urgent amputation. Was about to post this, but you beat me to it. In fairness, Wynona Ryder was originally casted, but she got really sick like the day before filming and had to pull out. She would have made a world of difference imo. And had they not low-balled Robert Duvall, he would have reprised Tom Hagen. If Ryder and Duvall had been part of it, that movie may have been right on par with the first two. I love you. not even proper casting could’ve saved that III, the script was just garbage needless incest, little to no character development, slow painful arc you can basically just watch the end scene and then move on with your life.

Although the movie was never made. I would have to say if it was Nicholas Cage as Superman in Superman Lives. I just can't see him being Superman

Topher Grace played Venom… I honestly think most of Raimi’s trilogy was bogged down by horrible casting. Dunst was way too homely looking to be MJ. But man, Venom was offensive in Spidey 3.

Pacino as Tony Montana. 1st I’ll say Scarface is an overrated movie & Pacinos awful Cuban accent is hard to listen to.
George Clooney as Batman.
Vince Vaughn as Norman Bates, Psycho.

3 was definitely Raimi trolling. He was strong-armed into including Venom, and I have no doubt in my mind that most of that was him responding in kind.

This is a great thread that I can get behind even though I love a lot of the hot takes referenced here. As a fellow cranky old man I can relate.
That said I really can't think of a good example at the moment but I think Thandie Newton sucks so I wasn't thrilled to see her in Solo which I thought otherwise was pretty well cast. I am going to have to come back to this thread when I think of someone that really didn't hit the mark for me with something in the way this thread is asking.
Hooray for grumpy threads!

Agreed. Movie had some potential, he bogged it down below a point of it being enjoyable. The whole thing was kind of corny from the start... but the typical typecast role he plays the same way in every movie is what brought the movie down.

Zoe Bell in "Death Proof" & "The Hateful Eight". I don't know what Tarantino sees in her. I guess she's a good stunt woman, but she sure can't act.
