Anyone else a fan of these ‘70s jazz rockers? Love their entire body of work, favorite track would be either Kid Charlemagne, Dirty Work, Time Out of Mind, or Kings. Saw them in ‘09 and ‘13.

Yes, I love those guys….I have the definitive collection on cd & I never skip a song ….there’s just something about their sound that’s unique & it isn’t present in music anymore, it just draws you in….plus how they acquired their name is great, if you don’t know that back story look it up….I guarantee it’ll raise an eyebrow

The Beats really influenced a lot of folks who came later, from The Beatles to Dylan to Dan. Great story there.

I recently discovered a copy of Pretzel Logic that I didn't know was part of my record collection. I like Steely Dan...they remind me of taking road trips to Florida with my mom and brother. She'd play their music a lot.
I admit I still need to listen to Pretzel Logic. I have way too many records I still need to listen to. I tend to get sucked into one particular artist at once and it keeps me from listening to a lot of different music I've bought. But I'm cool with Steely Dan, from the stuff I know. Probably the hits.

Meh. If you showed me a picture if Steely Dan, Boz Skaggs, the Alan Parson's Project, Orleans, Poco, Toto or Little Feet, I wouldn't be able to guess who was who.

The first time I heard the name "Steely Dan" was in the 90's when they had a concert on Monday Nitro. I remember wondering what the hell they were doing on a wrestling show and why WCW thought it was a good ratings ploy?

Now you've me questioning my own sanity. I was a WWF guy. Raw was on Mondays, but the channel that aired it (TSN) aired Nitro on Wednesday. I'm wondering if it was a Thunder? Maybe they were promoting them to show up at a PPV? I seem to remember Tony Schiavone getting really excited talking about Steely Dan.

I remember Tony Schiavone pumping the hell out of Steely Dan. I was a teenager at the time thinking about how all the redneck WCW fans were loving their country music. Maybe they were in attendance for a show? Maybe WCW was pushing a Steely Dan PPV?

I don't remember any Steely Dan WCW stuff.... maybe it was an inside joke for a minute.
I realized after more digging and sorting that I have a copy of The Royal Scam on vinyl too. We listened to that one the other day. It's...interesting.

I am curious as to what band that was, but definitely wasn’t SD. Dan were ‘70s hipster jazz rockers influenced by Beatnik literature and a plethora of other things. Definitely pretty far from country or redneck culture. Closest connection to WCW I could come up with is that, for the classic ‘77 Steely record Aja, the band used Warner Bros. Studios, and WB later owned Turner/WCW. But, obviously, that’s all coincidence.

Can you believe Steely Dan beat out Radiohead's "Kid A", Beck's "Midnight Vultures", and Eminem's "The Marshall Mathers LP" for Album of the Year at the 43rd Grammy's in 2001?

Steely winning AOTY in 2001 is altogether incredible to me. Lots of talent in that group - RIP Walter Becker.

Up until recently, I never cared for Steely Dan, but over the summer my musical palate changed to appreciate them. I didn’t know they did the song “Dirty Work” and I find it highly impressive that was on their first album along with “Do It Again.” Impressive range considering the two songs sound nothing alike.
