We watched this tonight on Max. My son has seen the first one and really likes the Looney Tunes. So I thought he would be really amped to watch the new one. Plus, he got a few of the McDonald's toys last week. That kind of added some incentive to watching it tonight.
Unfortunately, it didn't go very well. The movie is 2 hours long and needed to be under 90 minutes imo. We got to the one hour mark and he asked me every ten minutes if it was almost over. He's done this before. Almost exclusively with movies he never watches again. He said he really likes Bugs Bunny when this ended. That seemed to be his big takeaway. Oh, and Pennywise was in the crowd of the basketball game. My wife hates clowns, and my son finds that to be hilarious. So he pointed out Pennywise to us every time he saw him.
I had really low expectations, but I still found this to be a too serious, soulless, corporate cash grab. The music wasn't good. There was virtually no comic relief. The audience is absolutely bombarded with WB plugs and branding. LeBron was ok. He had too much dialogue and he's not very charismatic, but I think he would have been fine if the story wasn't so poor. It just wasn't a fun film imo. Bugs had some good moments, I loved all of Marvin the Martians stuff, and we got some pretty good Roadrunner and Coyote, but that's kind of where it stops. All the shifting in animation really wasn't my thing. The video game concept of the basketball game was cool visually, but just had a real emptiness to it once the game started. Kind of boring, and just a bit of a bummer.

I don’t think anyone needed to see this movie to know it was gonna suck. The previews were horrendous.

I’m still looking forward to watching, but sequels are just rarely as good.
Ya know, the NBA is also really intertwined with Disney (ESPN, The Bubble, etc.). Imagine if they had just given a big “F you” to WB and done something with Mickey and Goofy instead. The fan reaction alone would’ve been interesting enough.
But no, of course you’re always going to go back and dance with who brought ya (and they may legally have had to anyway), and I am a big LeBron fan. Wish this could’ve come out last year, off the heels of an NBA Title win. I think I’ll like the film even with reviews being what they are. Was obsessed with the original.

I haven't seen it yet, but this week I learned that BIG CHUNGUS has a cameo so now I think it's unequivocally better than the original and I'm considering bumping Lebron up in my personal rankings in a S I G N I F I C A N T fashion.  |

The only Sega console it was on was the Saturn Ah yeah, that's what I meant! Still an awesome game. I play an emulation of it on my PS3 to this day. I might play it later today now that I'm thinking about it. I have the original disc still--just the disc--but it's buried somewhere in my CD collection and I don't know where exactly it is. It also likely doesn't work, but that's ok. That's what modded PS3s are for! It was essentially just like Looney Toons Basketball for SNES which was a 2-vs-2 really fun arcade basketball game. Space Jam just had better graphics and MJ... plus more people on the court. God my brother and I played that game to death. |

We had fun pausing the movie to see who we could spot in the crowd. The MJ cameo was great too.
Everything else was bad. LeBron was an a-hole the entire movie and it got REALLY boring most of the time.
