Really enjoyed Wrestlemania as a whole. Both main events were outstanding, and had incredible storytelling in the ring. They picked the right matches to main event both nights for sure. The rest of the matches ranged from good to great, but at least the lower ranked matches were still entertaining. Some odd choices for winners in some matches, I have to say this was the least predictable PPV I have watched in a while. I can usually guess 80-100% of the winners but I only guessed 50% right over the course of the weekend. Also surprising how much the crowd was behind Tamina of all people, but good for her.

On another note, I believe this is the first time that two heel champs retained both world titles since the original brand split in 2002. I remember how big of a deal it was in 2000 when HHH became the first heel champ to retain the title at WM, so to see two heels do it is pretty cool.

For better or for worse, Bayley is still my favorite among the women's roster, and having her relegated to backstage segments that felt written on the fly was just such a drag. |

I actually got excited when PWinsider was reporting that they had plans for Bayley at mania. I assumed it had something to do with Becky, Ronda, or even Charlotte. Then it just turned out to be the Bella’s, very dissappointing. |

Bayley deserved a big match after the year she's had. I know in WWE's eyes, as a heel, messing about with Hogan, Bishoff, nWo and Bella's all weekend is a big deal, but she deserved a high profile match that could have gone on instead of the tag turmoil stuff.

Wow, I took a few hours off mid-show to do a run, and I figured I'd come back with remaining thoughts...but we're still on this Main Event argument? Hey, I don't care either way, but I'm pretty surprised to see that this is such a hot-button issue. Night 1 Main Event was the ladies, Night 2 Main Event was the 3-way. I guess I don't understand where there's an issue. WrestleMania main event is semantics this year. 2 nights, 2 cards. Anyway...
I broke off right before Big E/ Apollo, Apollo has won me over. He was SUPER bland as a face, but he won my respect when he wrestled Angle a couple of years back. I'm now a fan. I love Big E and all, he seems to be a great guy, but I'd like to see him be a bit more serious. Less gaudy colors and goofy expressions, more of an edge. He can still be funny and lighthearted, but one of the things I don't like about the New Day is that it's just all goofy stuff, and Big E's character is still a little too close to that for my personal tastes. Overall still a fan though. The match itself was ok, but definitely one that I was tuning in and out of.
Bayley deserved better. I'm not even a huge fan, but she worked her ass off and really did a character 180 that actually worked. Seeing the Bellas didn't excite me, so it felt like a weak consolation prize. If it were Trish, Lita, even Molly Holly, or all of the above it would've felt more special. This is just me of course, I get that the Bellas are WWE's Kardashians, so they have far more crossover appeal.
That Main Event took a little time to get going, but once it did, damn they never looked back. Great showing by all three, and I think overall the right guy won. I might be wrong, but I feel like Drew might be headed to Smackdown before too long (within the next couple of months) to continue the feud with Roman. Roman pinning both guys felt like a sly, humorous allusion to Super Roman the Babyface that stalls the place. Good strong win. I don't know where they're going now, I assumed Edge would get a one-on-one with Roman (he still very well may), but pinning both guys gives him ammo to just move on. To whom, I don't know since he's already beaten KO so many times that he's out, and Big E lost his title so I doubt he'll just slide into a World title match. Nakamura? Zizarro? If Roman had lost, whoever won should've faced Sami, as he's been gold.

If Bianca getting choked up is a deal breaker someone should probably go tell Dustin Rhodes he's fired for getting choked up at a 'Dusty' chant. Very different things. I’m not even so opposed to Bianca getting choked up as much as seeing Sasha join in and smile. If it was a “let’s show them what we can do match”, sure it makes sense. Friendly competition between friends. But this was a feud, they disliked each other. It has no place. It pulls back the curtain and breaks the illusion. If the WALKERS in Walking Dead just stop mid attack and cry because they are so happy to be on the show, it would break the entire illusion. This is no different. Dusty IS Dustins Father even on tv, it’s recognized as part of his on screen character. Same with Eddie & Benoit, their on screen characters like each other...Shawn Michaels DID want to win the WWF Championship, that’s all part of Tv. Sasha and Bianca do not like each other on tv, yet they acted like they do behind the curtain. Very different things How long have some of you been watching wrestling? Couple weeks? Can't believe that big dumb bitch Ric Flair killed the illusion and killed kayfabe when he bawled like a child before Shawn Michaels put him down with a Sweet Chin Music. Unprofessional. Y'all are gonna strain your backs with all this goalpost moving. It was an emotional moment, how dare the bitch cry, am I right? off lmao. |
