Bad News himself believe Piper did it for racist reasons and I also believe he did. Piper was used to getting away with his nonsense (non-racial nonsense but nonsense nonetheless) and he thought he could get away with this. He did for over 30 years. I think Piper post 1987 was pretty useless to wrestling and despite Vince McMahon's loyalty to him year after year despite the uselessness Piper had no loyalty to Vince.
People love Piper because he was a great family man and he was nice to every fan that paid to get his autograph at a convention but he shouldn't have been allowed to do the black paint then. I'm shocked Bad News didn't just walk out of the show.

I'm only pissed that Peacock doesnt allow pause or rewind during live events. Makes absolutely no sense and I hope they fix it before they get even more backlash than they've gotten already. See this is a complaint I agree with. Hopefully fixed by Mania.

I can only speak for myself but for me I just don’t like censorship at all. Why can’t I decide for myself if I want to watch it or not? I’m a grown adult and I don’t need to be protected. What if NBC feels that seeing a porn star or pimp is too much and they delete all of The Godfather & Val Venis off the platform. Put a disclaimer up and let people decide if they want to see it or not. But so far all they have censored is blackface and Vince using the N word which Wwe had already removed that. The manias with Godfather and Val are thus far in tact so I’d don’t see why they would remove them otherwise.
You must have never seen the Attitude Era then.
A pimp and a porn star.
Right there I can see Peacock removing them.
Let alone the entire ECW library that was from when Shane Douglas threw down the NWA Title until the very end.

It's a very slippery slope in both directions.
On one hand, yeah you probably shouldn't be able to walk into a bookstore and find it littered with copies on Mein Kampf. On the other hand, at what point does it become thought policing. Remember when Rock and Roll was the devil's music because of the conspiracy of playing it backwards?
It's hardly exclusive to the wrestling industry. 13 reason's why had to end up editing out the scene from the end of the first season that depicts the actual suicide, despite the warning disclaimers. On the other hand, Tropic Thunder is still a movie. My wife has a collection of some very old version of childrens tales like Snow White, etc, including the very poorly aged "Little Hiawatha" whose wikipedia article still refers to him as "Indian". I can hop on NBC sports and read all about the Cincinnati Reds or the Cleveland Indians. They finally ditched the Washington Redskins moniker, but somehow baseball escaped unscathed. Am I losing sleep about not being able to watch Roddy be a babyface racist? No not so much, as soon as I was old enough to understand what that segment meant I knew it wasn't a good one. But I'm far more bothered about something like the Cleveland Indians existing than I am censoring a crappy skit on a wrestling show that is hardly going to be sought out for by impressionable kids. Who hopefully have parents who could educate them on why it is racist.

I've never actually seen the Piper/Brown match. I just remember when Jakks released the figure, and I googled images of the real thing. I don't think it's a bad thing that it's been removed.

Dude I’ve been a wrestling fan my entire life I went to event after event in the attitude era, my argument is of the stuff that is up there already albeit a small sample size, Val Venis and The Godfather are in tact, as are DX, Austin giving the middle finger etc. all that’s gone is Piper and Bad News. If they upload the raws tomorrow and everything is gone then I’ll eat my words but right now all that is gone is blackface. That’s it!

I am interested as to what they are going to do with the old Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling and Mid South Wrestling programs.
Sgt. Slaughter and Roddy Piper calling Wahoo McDaniel, "Squawhoo McDaniel", Paul Jones saying to African American wrestler Rufus R. Jones while he was wearing a suit, "you can dress up a gorilla in a suit, but it's still a gorilla" and last but not least, Bill Watts saying about Tito Santana, "they call Mexicans 'wetbacks' because of them swimming over illegally to the USA from Mexico."
All those things were on the WWE Network in the past year. I know this because I just watched the entire Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling and Mid South Wrestling library that the WWE Network had up on there. I was shocked that those racist terms made the cut on the Network, so I hope Peacock is gonna go through all that, my guess is that they won't even put those territories on there to watch since they feel nobody will know of them.

Anybody who needs the PC crowd to determine what they can and can’t watch need to reconsider their life choices.
Nobody is saying Piper at WM6 or the Vince segment from survivor series 2006 would fly today, or were even ok back then. But rather than get “RRRRREEEEE ANGRY” at these moments, maybe take a moment to consider the time these took place in and that we’ve evolved enough to realize some people are offended by these.
But to completely edit them out of events just shines a brighter light on them. It’s also a slippery slope that can lead to no end.
“Those who ignore the past are doomed to repeat it.” Humanity isn’t, and never was, perfect. But look at the past to learn from it. Ignoring/erasing it does nothing but divide people further.

Those two events being edited out only shine a brighter light on them to the wrestling fans who are throwing a fit that they were edited out. Most people honestly do not care. Pretty much it seems like older white men are the ones getting bent out of shape about it not being there anymore. You also keep using that quote. In America, in history class, we’ve all been taught about MLK and racism, and here we are 50+ years later and it’s still repeating itself. Ignoring history isn’t the problem. Continuing to give a platform to racism and hate speech is the problem. Continuing to display it. It’s not a slippery slope if all they are doing it taking out displays of racism. You really think WWE and Peacock are going to put a disclaimer at the beginning of shows that says “Warning: Displays of racism”? when it’s easier to just cut those moment out? “The PC crowd!” are the ones that need to reconsider their life choices. The ones who persistently are making a big deal about Roddy Piper being racist as not being on a streaming service that only cost ten dollars and will still end up having thousands and thousands of hour worth of content on it in the long run really need to maybe. It’s essentially on the level of “I didn’t like this booking decision! #cancelthewwenetwork” Go buy the dvd or vhs or something. Peacock and WWE are still going to get a fortune out of this.

It’s essentially on the level of “I didn’t like this booking decision! #cancelthewwenetwork” Go buy the dvd or vhs or something. Peacock and WWE are still going to get a fortune out of this. Of course wrestling fans are going to notice because we’re the target audience. Pro wrestling isn’t mainstream, so this isn’t gonna catch on like the Dr. Seuss crap. Doesn’t take a lot of figure that out. WWE got their cut. They got $1 billion. Vince is happy. NBC on the other hand, is banking on gaining the majority of those 1.137 million US subscribers (which has been stagnant for years and below the WWE’s initial expectations).. But how many of those subscribers purchased the Network for mainly classic content...I can guarantee a lot, maybe even the majority of them. There’s bound to be a decent chunk upset about this (not the majority but atleast a good faction). Will NBC lose money? In the grand scheme of things, no, not likely. Peacock has enough content to bring viewers in. But will they get their bang for buck on the WWE content? That’s not as clear with the Network subscriber total remaining stagnant for years. They got a ton of content from the WWE, but if the unedited content wasn’t bringing in new subscribers, why would edited content... Go buy the DVDs...I did. I bought plenty over the years as I’m a wrestling fan...but you seem to ignore the multiple posts where I’ve pointed out that fans upset with the edited content are part of the target market...a very small pro wrestling fan market. It’s just as fair for us to share our opinions as it is for you (though I’ve mostly just seen passive-aggression remarks from your posts). If NBC wants our money they should listen to our concerns.

When people of color aren't still being targeted based on the color of their skin nearly 60+ years after the Civil Rights movement and nearly 150+ years after they were freed from being treated as sub-humans and property, then maybe you can actually use that quote in its proper context with regards to the state of race relations. If you're more upset about Peacock removing blackface content than you are about someone using blackface to begin with, you're part of the problem.

As for the Reds, I think the name was just shorted from "Cincinnati Red Stockings" and since the Red Sox were a thing, they just went with Reds.

If only had the WWE made DVDs and VHS tapes of these PPV events back in the day that are all unedited and could be sitting on your shelf collecting dust for viewing pleasure.... if only.... A lot of people dont have ECW Hardcore TV on VHS. And if they did, they probably threw out their cassettes because of the Network.
