That’s another thing that really gets me. I’ll end up buying or pre ordering a figure and it’ll be found online half price a months later. Mattel is really starting to flub the line up. Between distribution like you said and other stuff Seeing Shirai in such ample supply does hurt a bit, but not as much as it hurts MDT lol It wouldve been funny if Mattel made Io Shirai a Seiyu exclusive just to see people here lose their minds, LOL.

Downsize even more. I can't really reduce the number of figures I buy as I'm pretty much only buying pre-NWO WCW stuff. I bought several of Stunning Steve Austin and got the US Title loose from Facebook. But that was all of my 2020 Mattel spending. Just more money to put into movies and movie equipment.

I’m pretty much caught up in terms of modern wrestling until newer figures get announced and released. I really only collect wrestlers that have been in NXT from 2017 to the current product. Other than that, I still need to go back and get everyone that I don’t have from 1999 to 2003/early 2004 and finish that late attitude era to early ruthless aggression era.

What event is the attire on the hall of champions Warrior from? I think its from this picture, but he wore a similar attire in matches against the Undertaker Comparing pics it sure looks like it or close enough anyways.....what makes this figure so rare and/or expensive though? I believe it was a Target exclusive but was it a limited short packed deal?

Honestly, it might be to just end the collecting. This past year wasn’t a whole lot of fun for me in terms of colleting. It was more of a hey cool I got it type of thing instead of me trying to hunt and find stuff. Between having to pre order, pay scalpers or just overall miss out on things, it’s not worth the aggravation. I used to love this hobby more than anything but the last year really was trying Preach. The hobby kind of sold itself out to appease the whales and the sudden influx of influencers. Mattel is honestly the line that’s easiest to collect, and it’s still a nightmare. These lines are now selling us on our fear of missing out, and for the average collector it’s only a matter of time before our wallets have to tell us to stop because a lot of these figures jump up to 2x or even 3x retail value on the secondary market. Then you’ve got the big boy podcasters peddling out nonsense of how this is good for the hobby because it means people are interested. I feel like average folk are being starved out of the hobby in favor of wealthy collectors, and that sucks.

Doesn’t help that one of the people in charge is a podcast investor type person (I’m sure Jeremy’s a nice guy but y’all know what he’s doing with AEW is for resellers and ebay markets). Mattel ain’t saints either. They gave out Decade of Domination to a ton of “influencers” while everyone else had their orders cancelled

Some ego maniac, who derives a disturbing amount of self worth from his collecting, said if we don't like the way things are, we should "collect gum". What an a-hole. So in 2021, I guess I'll start collecting gum.

Mattel ain’t saints either. They gave out Decade of Domination to a ton of “influencers” while everyone else had their orders cancelled Amen my brothers and sisters. The hobby, which was once a source of casual joy and pleasure for me, turned far more into an obligation in 2020. You are exactly right with the lines selling the notion of "Missing Out" and it's awful. It's not a hobby anymore, it a job, and somewhere along the way, collectors (and by far kids) stopped being the target audience. Now, these figures are sold with the intention of building hype and going the figure version of VIRAL.
There's a lot that can be said for the horrible concept of influencers and their kind. I remember in the 90s when everyone, outside of maybe a few professionally run businesses, bought their BCA and TTL figures at KB just the same. There were no "perks" or "influencer samples" for action figures. Nobody was sending toys to housewives to post reviews for in an issue of Good Housekeeping.
I almost became an influencer, once. For tea. I was on a large tea-review website posting detailed reviews for everything I drank daily. Soon, companies started sending me free tea.
I stopped posting on the website. That's how much the "influencer" market has come to disgust me.
Because, here's the thing. When companies, the manufacturers, developers, and producers of a product start to send you stuff for free, you can't help but think it's because your opinion matters to the community. And it isn't a large leap in thinking from there until you reach "Well, maybe I'm just more important than these simple retail-hunting folk." Influencers, more often than not, have a huge head on their shoulders about their chosen field and the current business practices only encourage their crap and feed their egos.
The dark realization of all of this has led me to two resolutions for the new year.
1. Stop hesitating on buying the things you want. If there's a figure you like, get it. Due to the current market and crap surrounding it, these things aren't getting any cheaper. Spend that 40 dollars now so you don't feel compelled to spend 70 later. Also, I need to remember that my shelves are poorly lit and in a dark corner. Stop aiming for perfection. Not ever figure needs to be Mint off the card. Short of excessive paint rub and figures with missing or damaged parts, there's no shame in having pre-loved figures. You're poor, Shanie. Suck it up and realize that if you want a DM Crow Sting figure, you're either paying 60 dollars, or you're getting one that's slightly worn. And you know what? There's no shame in either of those options.
2. But don't waste money on items you feel obligated to collect because "the community" tells you it's good. You know what, if I had Mattel shoveling figures for free into my mailbox every week, I'd go online and say that Mattel was the best company ever to exist as well. They're not, and stop treating them as such. Be more discerning, pick out only the stuff you want, and stop shelling out money on figures you don't really care about. Yes, this includes buying exclusives and chases when you see them just because they're "Rare". Just because something is hard to come by doesn't make it good.
Sorry for the long post/rant. I'm in a mood tonight.

Man hype has and always will drive prices. it could legit be a shitty figure and people will bandwagon to it just because someone says its cool. Ive seen this sooo much the past 20 years collecting. Thats with every hobby.
