Interesting line up, the chase figures have been very niche as other members have said. Besides the distribution issues with Monsoon, theyve made some that are really popular and others that are still sitting around, ie the Mae Young still hanging out in one of my local Wal Marts. The perceived value has people chasing them and then they could end up rising in value like davey boy has or go the way of Billy graham on ringside at 17.99. I’m sure completists won’t be thrilled but it adds to the collection and others will pass.

The Goon, if true, is definitely a surprise and one that would have been on my “never to expect” list, but here we are. I’m still excited because it is, at least, a FTITL and should look cool from a figure perspective.

If true, that’s certainly an interesting set of leaks.
-I would think Mania 23 or Mania 19 would be the leading candidates for the HBK attire. Probably an outside chance of a WrestleMania 5/6/7 Rockers look though. I can’t see it being Mania 8, just because they did that era Shawn in last year’s Mania set, though anything is possible.
-For Bret, I would 100% want Mania 8 or 9 (all pink or all Magenta) but I hunk Mania 12 or 13 is more likely. I could also see them doing the battle royal-winning look from Mania 4 though.
-I’d think a Mania BAF Vince would be from WrestleMania 23, complete with shaved and unshaven head. Would make sense as the suit body could be used. That said, I guess Mania 19 or 22 wrestling gear is possible.
-The Goon is definitely a surprise, and bodes well for future obscure legends. (Unless he was signed to a deal for a while, and this is pushing him out before it expires).

The Goon is a character that stands out in figure form, while the character was bad, it makes sense why they would make him instead of Jumpin Jerry Johnson who had a match against Tito Santana on the May 16th 1988 episode of WWF Superstars in his Black Trunks, Black Knee Pads, Black Boots and White Wrist Tape, Like sure i'd rather have Mattel make Haku or Raven, but it's still pretty cool
With all that out of the way, how did The Goon get legends deal?

I want to know how signing The Goon to a legends deal happened. Who is making that decision? Was Damien Demento not available so they went with whoever else they could get? That's what I'd love to know. He's been signed for a few years - he had a Topps card somewhere around 2017. Maybe somebody in the office owed him a favor. Because I can't see any of the usual situations where they've given out a "thank you" legends deal - HOF induction, working backstage, inclusion in a documentary, etc. People who argue that there are few legends signed because WWE "need to be able to profit" are off base. It's politics - just look at Stevie Ray, Tatsumi Fujinami, Bill Irwin, Strongbow. Closet thing I can thing of is that I know Irwin was heavily involved in their WCCW doc and I believe working on the footage from that. Maybe he helped with something on the Network or tracking stuff down? I also remember he seemed to be in pretty bad shape doing an interview relatively recently. |

Mania 4 Bret but no Anvil? While they were both in the battle royal, Bret and Anvil didn’t technically team at Mania 4. Actually Bret winning that match and having his trophy smashed by Bad News Brown was his first huge singles moment in WWF, so I could definitely see that warranting a single release figure. |

The better question is how did Zombie Tailor Troy not sign The Goon for his Galoob line?! Are his 50K followers not voicing their opinion and demanding it?! I guess when you make millions and wake up in satin sheets you can loose sight of the important things.

And that’s on top of Earl Hebner, Sabu, and Jeff Jarrett. I think it’s awesome what he’s doing and taking matters into his own hands so to speak. With the godfather of Hasbro, Ron Rudat, designing the figs no less. Zombie’s just a regular dude. Like the rest of us. What have you done besides spew some unwarranted hatred today? |

(admittedly, I haven't watched WrestleMania IV or really any WWF stuff from the "golden" era in a long time). Either way though, my overall point was that was Bret's first big "solo" spotlight moment so I could see it being a figure. |
