Does anyone else still buy movies (Blu-ray/DVD) or has everyone moved on to digital libraries? Some of my friends were ripping on me for still having a large movie collection when all of them just buy everything on amazon prime or some other platform. I’ve never understood the digital library fad. I feel like a digital library makes you dependent on the your internet connection. Also, if your going to buy something wouldn’t you want a physical copy of it? Is anyone else with me on this or am I just an old fart that’s behind on the times?

I was with you for the longest time, and I still am on some things, but not like my TV/Movies and the like. I've gone completely digital. I still like to buy music in physical format, because I have a real nostalgia for vinyl, and of course album art. And they always give you the digital download with it anyway.

I still buy and prefer physical copies of most things, music, books (with exceptions), and movies. Oh yeah, totally forgot books too. I tried the tablet thing, and I just couldn't get through a book to save my life. Regular books I can do cover to cover on a good day. Dunno why that is. |

I tried the tablet thing, and I just couldn't get through a book to save my life. Regular books I can do cover to cover on a good day. Dunno why that is. Im with you on that one. I can’t do the ebooks. It always kinda messes with my eyes. I’m sure that much screen time has to be bad for you. I’m also a musician and even though I have all my sheet music on my iPad I still end up printing it out most of the time. |

Always been a physical copy guy.Nothing like looking at that DVD cover on the shelf when at anytime you want you can pop it in the player.

I prefer buying physical copies of movies although has gone down a lot recently. 2019 had a ton of great movies yet the only ones I bought on blu ray were The Gentlemen and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.
Music I’ll buy digitally though.

Not as much as I did when I was younger. Most of the time I rent digitally or wait fro Black Friday and stock up on a bunch of movies then. It's hard to pass up some random movies on sale for $5 or less at Walmart though. lol
People know I love movies, so I still get some as gifts. My wife got me Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and the pre-order receipt for the Criterion version of Parasite.

All digital now. My entire movie collection is on Prime Video now. No regrets either. I like it a lot.

I still buy physical. I can't do digital. I need special features on movies. I need to write notes in my non fiction books. I need to hear the crack of those fiction books. I need to hear the pops from a Jazz vinyl from the 50's. I need to be able to sale by video games on eBay after I'm done with them.

I will never trust that a copy on a digital service would remain in "my" possession. I 100% agree. I have a semi decent digital movie/tv library on iTunes but I completely fear that one day they could just close up shop and then what? I’m out years of collecting/purchases. I keep a bunch of stuff on hard drives now so at least its under my control but sometimes Ill really like a steel book that comes out and ill grab one of those. |

being a minimalist limits my ability for buying massive collections of things, which probably differentiates me from the general forum population here. stuff to me is just stuff, for the most part, unless there's significance or utility to it.
so while I think my buddy's that have massive VHS collections from continuing to buy them for years is a fun idea and cool, I myself wouldn't pursue it. only exception being that I've considered starting a collection of the WWF coliseum videos.
that said, I have 200+ sega genesis games and assorted sega merch, so I suppose I do have exceptions.
