In 28 years, I've never seen this happen collecting wrestling figures. I've never seen the buildup to a designated release, with the demand built from a preorder that was three months prior. I've also never seen a retailer handle wrestling figures this way. Are we collecting Funko Pops or NECA figures now? To have a street date, to being held at the electronics desk, to one per customer, to the fact that each store only received FIVE pieces, this is unprecedented as far as I see it.
Your thoughts?

I'm hoping that the stores re-stock, I missed on on Greg but was able to get Razor. The point of the thread was just my view I've never seen wrestling figures released almost like an event with limited availability.

It’s ridiculous plain and simple! I drove to 4 Target stores first thing this morning and none of them had them out and no employee seemed to care enough to try and track them down in the back. I was willing to hand them $60 cash but they just don’t care. Super frustrating

Never before have action figures been released during a global pandemic. Nothing is normal right now. Everyone needs to relax about this and everything else with action figures right now.

It’s undeniable that Mattel has some real issues w distribution, particularly with store exclusive sets. From the Harley Race set to the difficulty of finding this new Legends set, there’s obviously errors that should be fixed to make the system work better. It could be more the stores fault than Mattel but it’s still An issue. I happened to get lucky and find the two figs I wanted today my first try (Razor and Heenan) but I’ve been reading all the difficulties people seem to have finding the set. It does seem like a small amount the stores are getting in

I mean we kind of see this with limited edition convention exclusives. Now it's like that but with mass market retailers and figures that are supposed to basically be mass market releases, even though they are exclusive to a single retailer.

Someone's selling the 4 L7 figs on ebay for $400, with $200 shipping and it legit has a bid.
I wish Mattel cared about international collectors.

Why can’t they do the same for Mattel?

I got to my local target at 8 when they opened, went towards the back and found an employee who grabbed the one case they had from the stockroom. He opened it and I got one of each, I was extremely happy to see those yellow trunks on Valentine! Glad I could get lucky since I wasn’t able to preorder. I was told target will be getting more in this Tuesday or Wednesday as well so not all hope is lost people!

Happening everywhere now. Scalpers in Canada are clearing out entire shelves at stores to put them on Facebook for 2-3x the price or in raffles. I've never had this problem with any other action figure line, especially with Jakks. Mattel's quality was enough for me to deal with it, but now for the first time in 25+ years of collecting I'm mulling over putting a stop to it. The scarcity, scalping, cost and attitudes surrounding the hobby are all incredibly toxic and sucking all the fun out of it. I'm at my wit's end.

I find it hard to believe in this market, with so many people buying toys at $20 a piece, nobody sees money in opening up a Toys R Us.
It’s clear as day we need a toy specialist. The Wal marts and Targets just don’t have the staff to even care about toys. I have done retail, believe me, they have no clue what goes where, what’s new so on and so on.
We need stores that specialize in toys and employees that specialize in toys.

If it makes you feel any better the TRUs in Canada only carry 20+ Shield Angles each and rarely get anything new in more than a single case at a time.

It's bad enough for people trying to get them in the US, but when, if you want the figure you have no option but to pay an ebay guy at least triple the retail price, then pay shipping and import tax it's just horrendous and takes all the pleasure out of it. I have no idea how I'm going to get L8 Warrior.

If it makes you feel any better the TRUs in Canada only carry 20+ Shield Angles each and rarely get anything new in more than a single case at a time. haha I believe it. I’m not saying Toys R Us specifically, but believe it or not, I’m old enough to remember a time when Toy stores were awesome! They truly were toy specialist. The same principles they ran on back then need to come back today just updated for 2020. In theory, the store should know what’s selling and what’s not. They should be reordering hot toys or have the knowledge to know what would sell in the first place. Any of us can place an order for wrestling figures and know what would sell and what wouldn’t...that should be a job, and a good one. Right now, I’ll guarantee you Target/ Wal Mart looks at their spread sheets and says, we don’t make enough money on toys to care. Meanwhile in reality, they get in a box of new figures and more times than not, those figures are all sold in 48 hours. If you’d stop getting in 5 new toys every 6 months, you’d a whole lot of money coming from toys. I can’t buy something though that isn’t there. Retail only cares that the pegs are full. (at this point I’m not even certain that’s still the case) They’d rather the same 6 figures clog the shelves because in reality, it’s one less thing to re-stock. As long as the peg is full, onto the next one. Somebody should be putting old stock on clearance and making room for new stock. But for the money they get paid, I understand why nobody cares.
