I just got my first one -- an Echo Dot. I'm not sure when the sale ends (probably on Mother's Day) but Best Buy has the same deal Amazon does, $30 but BB will give you a smart light bulb for $5 with it.
I'm a big tech geek but this thing is ridiculously overcomplicated. I'm having a hard time doing anything with it. It took close to 17 steps get this thing connected to my wifi. Then I had to Google how to use it as a bluetooth speaker for my phone because I couldn't just connect it. This is insane.
Are Google's speakers any more use friendly? I'm looking for something I can set up for my elderly mother that she can easily use.

Ive got 2 Echo dots...The first was simple for me to hook up but Ive still yet to be able to get the second one to work properly.

None. I do enough shady crap that I prefer to limit how much access the government has to the inside of my home.

I don't have one, but my classmate has one and it's the Alexa one. It works really well, has it hooked up to a really good music speaker which seems like a good idea if you like to listen o to a lot of music.

Amazon Echo for me. Being pro Apple, it was easy for me to dismiss Alexa (plus it annoyed my friends who don't like Apple) but I gave it a go anyway. I'm liking it so far. I spent nearly two hours playing Song Quiz. I've tried to connect it to my LG 4K TV but theres no option to do so. I'm wondering if its a region thing because others over here can't do it either. Sound wise, the speakers are great, really clear. I've never used a small bluetooth speaker before so I can't really compare it to any others.
