Hello there, everyone! I am currently planning to order multiple paints for when I start customizing. I am no expert with paints, but I need to know what is the best brand for customizing. I hear Citadel is good, but I also hear Vallejo is good too. I already have Desert Yellow and Biege Red from Vallejo for skin color mixing, and Abaddon Black from Citadel but haven’t tried either yet since I haven’t started my first custom project. I believe I am going to start working on a Bald Baron Corbin as my first custom, but that could change. Just wanted to know your guys’ thoughts, super excited to get to work on it! (If you comment on this, I would greatly appreciate if you gave me a list of your favorite paints from that company, or the ones that are the basic paints I would need to order.) Thank you!

The best brand is the one you can get the easiest, is the cheapest, and you can work with.
Dont get Tamiya if you're a beginner, theyre hard to handpaint with unless youre experienced.
Start with some acrylics and learn what consistency works best for handpainting. Thinning with water and thinning with actual acrylic thinner gives you different consistencies and coverage, experiment.
Keep your brush damp.
Testors is good when you have some more experience, about as durable as Tamiya.
Last time I used Citadel it was junk. Too thick, dries too fast in the pots, etc.
I use Formula P3 (handpanting) and Tamiya (airbrushing) mostly now. Formula P3 is beginner friendly, thin with a little water and it doesn't lose too much coverage.
Don't get hung up on colors. Learn how to mix paints so you won't have to spend months online asking what the "perfect skin tone" is. I find it's useful to start with "normal" Caucasian skin color, then add yellow/red/brown/green as needed.
