They were actually trying to get the Red Sox to do it, because they wanted Craig Hansen and the Red Sox were only really after Lidle, so once the Yankees decided to eat Abreu...Lidle was in there too. Ancient history though.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A New York man has been charged with beating his mother to death with a barbell after losing his temper while watching a baseball game on television.
Michael Anthony, 25, was watching the New York Mets lose a game on Saturday from his home in the borough of Queens when he began furiously banging on the walls, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said in a statement on Monday.
His father Fred Fischman shouted at him to stop, but Anthony punched him in the face and threw him to the ground, according to the criminal charges.
When Anthony's mother, Maria Fischman, 61, tried to intervene, prosecutors said he stabbed her once in the head with a knife before chasing her into a bedroom where he struck her several times with the 20 pound (9 kilogram) barbell.
"It is difficult to imagine a crime more heinous than that of a son viciously attacking his parents and, in the process, fatally beating his mother to death," Brown said.
Anthony has been remanded in custody and faces a maximum of life in prison if convicted.
Ummm....go Mets?

Ummm....go Mets? Atlanta braves new slogan "Hey, at least our fans don't kill their mothers when we lose."

www.ajc.com/braves/content/sports/braves/index.htmlajc.com is reporting that Teixeira to the Braves for Salty and three minor leaguers is a done deal. I really wanted to see Salty have a chance to shine here in Atlanta, but even as a UGA fan, Ive always liked Tex.

I was shocked when i saw the Rays 24 games out and i get pissed when the Stros are out like 12... imagine those poor fans. I like to balance my fandom for the Devil Rays with my love for the Braves...they're really the only 2 teams I actually really like...other than that I'd say it'd be the Giants...but that's a distant third...it just pisses me off that every year we just get ing prospects....all the god damn time...what killed us was the Canseco, Boggs, Vaughn and McGriff signings right from the start...still doesn't take away the fact that those guys are all awesomely hilarious...

I find it funny that Salty married his high school teacher, who's like over 20 years older than him.
He's gonna want a divorce when he's 40...

According to the New York Daily News, the Yankees turned down a deal for Eric Gagne that centered around Double-A pitching prospect Alan Horne. The Yankees are said to have already told the Rangers that Joba Chamberlain, Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy are unavailable, which makes it difficult to see how a deal for Gagne could get done. Instead, they're reportedly offering some combination of Tyler Clippard, Matt DeSalvo, Jeff Marquez, Chase Wright and Scott Proctor. Cashman is a ing moron if he blows this. We have enough young arms in the minors, so we're going to have to give the Rangers at least one good prospect if we want Gagne. The more I read, the more it seems like this team is going to do NOTHING come the deadline. And if that's true, I can't see us being a contender down the stretch.
