Just received a notice that my order from Ringside Collectibles (of 11 figures) has a duty fee of $90. I know this is on UPS and not Ringside, but that makes the overall shipping charge for 11 wrestling figures to be around $140, which is simply preposterous. Our poorly performing Canadian Dollar makes it hard enough, but fees like this are making it just about impossible for Canadian customers to make bigger orders from websites like this.
I have experienced similar import fee charges (although not nearly as high) on eBay, but at least their charges are advertised beforehand...Why is it that we in Canada have to experience these problems when ordering from the US? I have found that it is a fraction of the price to get something shipped from Europe or Japan (for example) than it is from America. What sense does this make? It is so frustrating. Has anyone else experienced similar problems?

There are a few things at play here. - don't use UPS, FedEx or DHL as couriers if you have a choice at checkout on international orders. Duties and brokerage fees are variable, depending on the agent. The don't always assign the rght HS codes on importation. Always choose USPS/Canada Post. - Canada has an import limit of $20 CAD. Anything above 20 and duties will apply based on the invoice amount - For now, the US have an import limit of $800 USD.

For Ringside orders (and many others), I actually ship items to a friend in California first. At an appropriate time he sends them up to me. It is still cheaper than shipping direct to Canada from Ringside (on the shipping costs) and I have yet to pay an import fee for anything he has sent me. It is a poor way to work around, and it takes a bunch more time, but it does save 30%.

I just received my first parcel from Ringside Collectibles a few days ago. Luckily, I didn't have to pay duty fees (ordering just three figures with the cheapest shipping option to Toronto, Canada).
My advice, like Gorilla already stated is to go with USPS. You'll still get a tracking number.

I never use UPS, they're basically stealing your money. I don't know how much your order cost but assuming it was say around $200, you paid almost 50% tax or duty. That more than likely wouldn't happen using usps.
I know that Trump has pointed out to Canadian officials the fact that they allow $800 in without duty and we are only allowed $20, certainly doesn't encourage Canadians to buy American.
