When did we get known for saying "eh?" alot? I've never heard anyone say "eh?" unless it's on some comedy show where they are making fun of Canada.

As often as you here people say, "What's your problem, huh?" I just wish they realized that adding that "huh" in behind the question makes no sense what-so-ever. I find it intellectually- disabled whenever people do that.

I volunteer at Fort William Historical Park (plug) and Americans have offered to pay me to use 'eh' in a sentence, they think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

"Eh" does not exist here in Newfoundland but we make up for it in the many other words we use way to often such as "b'y". A famous Newfoundland saying...."How's she cuttin budday?"
Hahaha god I love it here. In what other city of 150 000 can you go out and almost know or atleast talk to everyone you see.

I say it on the occation, but not too often...
I think Jean Cretian kind of helped the Americans along with making fun of us about it, because he says it lots.

I work in a call center with American clients and half the people in the center have a really thick accent. Yes guys, compared to Americans we do say "about", "out", "house", etc a little funny. Around here, people say "eh" a lot.
eg: Call center employee: "So, Mrs. Smith, even with the signal I sent to the cable box, it's still not working, eh?"
Mrs. Smith: "Are you Canadian?"
I've actually learned to talk with an American accent. Most people around here find I talk funny now.
Worse than the accent stereotype, the idiots where I work really encourage the cold weather stereotype. They forget that temperature is measured different in the States, so when you tell them it's a nice winter day because it's -10, they think we're insane.

I've worked in several American call centres as well as a Canadian one I'm working at now and I've never been able to distinguish an actual accent. When I worked at the American ones I had one person ask me if I was Canadian and oddly enough she had a British accent. Personally I don't see a difference.

Sam Hain, the reason why we say "about", "out", "house" funny compared to Americans (although I'd say their pronounciation is funny not ours) is because we don't have that drawl on the ou (which is how aboot came about).
And if you guys think its bad having people being able to tell your a Canuck by the way you speak, on several occaisons I've had people ask me if I was from California. Whenever I ask why, the answer is always that I sound like Californian skate boarders and surfers.

Most of Newfoundlander's ancestors are from either Ireland or Europe and I guess we still have the language.

Yeah, we pronounce the ou in out as one sound, Americans stretch it out and prounounce both.
