If this was a fight, the ref would have stopped it long ago.
I passed on Jakks Studd cause I thought it was awful back then. I don't plan on passing on the Mattel version.

saintpatrick33 What's your thoughts on the Mattel Studd vs Jakks .........this is gonna be great.....or a train wreck Head sculpt , hair part , Jaw perfect really nice but maybe jaw/cheek area wider ? bigger belly and his neck is to long but their best legend to date but I hope they darken the beard and highlight the hair and then its a 9.5 ! Sorry no 10s as Only PJ and God are Perfect ! This is an interesting concept about the bigger belly. If you look at Big John Studd in 1986 (see Wrestlemania 2) as compared to his return in 1989 (See Royal Rumble 1989) as a face, there is a significant difference. In the story lines, they said Big John was away doing heavy strength training for 2 years. While that may be true, he came back much heavier from being out of the ring and likely because he was a few years older. Considering the fact that this is supposed to be when he was in the Heenan Family (1984-1986), the smaller belly take is probably more accurate. If they were to make a 1989 Studd (Royal Rumble '89 or Wrestlemania 5) then he should look heavier in my opinion, and maybe his hair slightly thinner.

Im shooting off the hip I would have to look at some tapes of SNME but you bring up a great point and when I say belly Im saying a tad above the waist but I think the hair and beard color are a bigger issue . You see what im saying about the too much neck flaw right ? it wrecks the piece for me thats key with the Giant John Studd he has no neck ratio !

I've never really seen bjs wrestle but seeing your pics, I kind of want to own this.... Even just for a minute to repaint the hair and beard just for kicks, although I don't think they need to be repainted
I can't find any measurable way to compare that to the jakes figure...... I remember when classic superstars first came out I was stoked to find classic wrestlers at retail again and I bought Bret hart, warrior, dibiase, jake Roberts and Andre.....
I didn't keep them long.... It was so cool to have them and know they were making more but they looked like garbage. Same torsos, bad scale etc When csda came out I bought more of those as I liked the scans better and some of the attires but man I'm so glad Mattel brought the bar to a proper level. Yea the John studd Mattel isn't perfect, but damn it looks great. They didn't have enough $ in the budget to give him his own unique torso mold but who cares, the one they used is close enough for me. In fact I think it's almost perfect. The head could be lowered a smidgen but it looks good as is. And it's an easy fix to lower the head.
I'm looking forward to seeing the nasty boys , 123 kid, funk and the hart foundation this year... I hope they give the nastys their glasses....

They need to lower the neck seriously thats a key as he had no neck and they gotta give him the arm hair right as those make or breaks the piece and the iconic tights and heres a pic of his blond hair dark beard far right before mod that mattel should something like and always collect what you like and dont worry about what others may say because only what you like matters as I could never collect Mattel because of the lightweight feel and the over articulation as it just freaks me out on any figure but I like them for Andre heads and clothing . Happy New Year too !

Nice work with those, wow. Thanks and there all old pics as I even made a taller Hogan and slightly shorter Dynamite kid and all the managers real size fun times but small differences never bothered me scale wise but Andre and Studd were the keys on my Scale and BJS drove me crazy I did the goofy leg mod and then Ralphs trunks but then I devised the leg mod and I must have got lucky as it was seamless and even my RS Taker didnt come out that smooth . Ok gonna get some sleep take care and happy collecting guys

I'm glad to finally get a BJS figure that actually looks like him. I don't know how anyone could hate the rsc hogan headscan, it's my favourite headscan for hogan. Looks nothing like les gold. Totally agreed here, it's one of the best Hogan heads ever.

I think Jakks made better face sculpts.
Other than the face the two figures look great. Jakks made a better toy IMHO. It had more accessories and cost less than half what Elites usually go for. If you like articulation and compatibility between elites and basics and price point isnt an issue than Mattel has done a better job. But then again, it's easy to learn from someone else's efforts and build upon what they did before you. So Mattel just learned from what Jakks did.
I'll always have a special place in my memories for Jakks, they made Classics! I remember walking into Walmart and seeing an Andre the Giant figure that looked superior to my old LJN and Hasbro figures.

But then again, I don't understand the hysteria over Malenko's lack of stubble (when he didn't always have stubble) and DDP's dirty blonde hair (because his hair was dirty blonde).

People complain about Malenko stubble because the prototype had it and they complain about DDP because he has orange hair. Malenko is still a great figure but I wouldn't go that far on that DDP

The only thing that I can see that Mattel did wrong, at least from me just eyeballing it and not looking on google for a picture like I should, but it looks like the stars are too small and not as spaced out as the Jakks version, but I could be wrong. The rest of the figure is flawless, imo ! I can't wait to get all of HOF 3 and this Box-set

DDP's second elite is a ginger. That's not ok
