I am new to the forums and I do not draw wrestling related art (I have in the past, but it has been quite some time), but I have been in the comics industry for a bit and now make a living with my commission work. I would love to invite anyone interested to check out some of my work here: www.comicartfans.com/GalleryDetail.asp?GCat=45044Thanks for your time...

Do you think I should start posting some actual pics on here, or should I wait until I have some time to do some wrestling related stuff? Not sure how "into" comics most members here are.

You can post anything you want, doesn't have to be wrestling related and there are tons of comic lovers in thia place.
If you're into comics check out the comics board and hop into the entertainment board, there's tons of discussion about GOTG, the MCU, DCU, Arrow, etc.

Incredible stuff man. Why don't you apply to be a penciller some where? I love your depiction of the Hulk. All of these are brilliant, great job.

That's an amazing talent you have there. You should go to Comic Con and show the writers your stuff and hopefully one would be interested. I'm pretty sure that's how upcoming artists get into the big leagues with Marvel and DC.

I have been to every convention you can think of as both attendees and on artists alley and had no luck. I have tried it all! lol I have drawers full of rejection letters including, my personal favorite (I have it framed) a seven page rejection letter from Marvel where the submissions editor completely ripped me a new one. They found fault in everything I did.

What exactly was said in that 7-page letter? I find these very well done so I'm just curious.

What exactly was said in that 7-page letter? I find these very well done so I'm just curious. You name it... They hated it! lol They ripped my "anatomy", and I will admit, my artwork isn't spot on phto-realistic, but it's comics!... Why should comics be so textbook correct? It's not like I am doing medical diagrams or anything... lol Theye even went as far as to suggest some anatomy books I could check out and study My "attention to detail" was brought up as they felt I didn't put enough detail into my work. It's funny that detail was a big part of my rejection as I have, at least, 6 Spiderman comics in my possession now where the large spider on his back has only six legs! I thought spiders had 8!? That's one "detail" that must have been missed. It just went on and on. They said I didn't differentiate my pencil lines enough between different textures such as transitions from skin to fabric. They said my backgrounds were weak. They said my facial expressions and details were not as strong as they should be. Then, the last page of this opus was them telling me that my work resembles Todd McFarlane's a little too much. I will admit that I was greatly influenced by McFarlane, so yeah, I guess I do take some of his process and incorporate it into mine. His work on Spiderman is what got me back into comics years ago, so I guess I have borrowed from his style. Is that so wrong though? Hell, the guy sold millions upon millions of copies of books. If resembling another artists' style keeps artists from working at the large companies, then no one in the 90s would have had a job. Jim Lee's style was borrowed by everyone. Those are just some of the things that were mentioned. Thanks for the kind words regarding my work by the way... again, truly appreciated.

That's unfortunate, the pieces you have on that site are insanely detailed so I don't understand their problems. Sounds like a lot of pretentious nitpicking, I mean if Rob Liefield was able to "make it" then I don't know what to think.

Agree with JDav here.
Especially considering the variety of art styles you see across comics, you'd think reviewers were more open to adaptation and interpretation.

I love Todd McFarlane's work, have you ever tried Image or Dark Horse? Yeah, I have tried them all: Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, IDW, Arcana, Dynamite (actually got to do a cover for their Army of Darkness comic), even Archie Comics. I don't think there is a single company that I haven't tried multiple times. I also don't think most submission editors even look at what they are shown most of the time anyway. I sent a package to DC and about a month later got a letter saying that, "Even though we appreciate your submission, we are not currently looking for new storylines." I never sent them any new storyline ideas, just samples of my work. Cover samples as well as interior sequential samples. I guess comics is a hard business to get into, and I truly believe that it's not what you know but WHO you know.

Your work is simply amazing! And if the comic companies aren't interested, then I would highly recommend that you go into business for yourself. You have all the talent to do so.
