I dunno, I think the fur is the cost reason to make this figure a DM release, it looks like quality stuff. I think Mattel could pull off the red Wrestlemania 8 robe if they didn't include a belt. It was a bit less intricate. Mr. Wonderful's robe is nothing to sneeze at and it got in the Legends line. Yeah, it would be great if we had a Wrestlemania 8 Ric, to go with the Savage... I think he could be done in the regular Elite line too, either with a cloth or plastic robe.

Well now I'm hopeful for a Royal Rumble Flair with the Winged Eagle belt...so this black robe has a place to go lol, but yeah I honestly believed Mania 8 Flair would be his debut figure in the Mattel line. This is all really surprising. I'm happy to have this Starrcade 83 Ric Flair...
Because that's what it is, it's Starrcade 83 Ric Flair.

When Flair wore carolina blue, his boots had a "red" RF on them. Every match Ive seen him in this outfit has had them. I personally would put this as his Halloween Havoc '89 attire. The differences being, 1)His hair is too short to be '83. Flair had a big ol puff in 83 and in 89 it was more just touching his shoulders. 2)In 83 his knee pads were solid navy blue, in '89 his knee pads were two toned. In 83 he had the Domed Globe belt & in 89 he had Big Gold (of course Mattel will avoid the NWA Title because of licenses rights). Certainly I dont consider there any particular right or wrong answer since the boots & robe are wrong anyway...but just my opinion, its a late 80s/early 90s Flair.

Did you guys ever think that maybe it isn't based on any one attire? Maybe it's just supposed to be a Ric Flair.

I love it when figures aren't pigeonholed into one particular match.

Random note: I had Flair in my "save for later" cart, and I noticed the price dropped to $21.99.

It's been pulled from Kmarts website it looks like. I was wondering how long it'd be up there. Expecting an announcement sometime in the next few months.

The fact that they aren't just coming out and saying what this figure actually is has me believing that they are planning some kind of big reveal/announcement down the road. This may be the best SDCC we've seen yet from Mattel. The prospect of a DM relaunch has me very excited.

Lol no, I mean they use SDCC to showcase all the new and upcoming stuff, so if they are doing a major reveal it will be there. And with the talent they have available now it should be amazing. The fact that it isn't in an upcoming elite line could mean it's in a NEW line, which may be just wishful thinking by many of us here. If it's just a Kmart or RSC exclusive I'm cool with that too though.

Random note: I had Flair in my "save for later" cart, and I noticed the price dropped to $21.99. yup its gone... i had put in my cart also , but now its gone. dam, i hope this comes out sooner rather than later. Its gotta be a DM relaunch of some kind. but then again , this is the only "DM" we all have really heard about so im not sure now. Im just glad all that speculation of "if" "when" "why" etc. is now over. Flair is coming...

Yeah, he's right. Race had two-tone blue kneepads but Flair's were solid at Starrcade 83. His RF on his trunks at Starrcade 83 was black, and they were red on the boots. Ihe figure's a hodgepodge. The head to me is more late 92 Survior Series once the mullet was more grown in but still not quite back to its machismo glory, and the face looks older. But the attire would still likely go with one of Flair's blue robes of which there were a couple. Perfect Royal Rumble Flair would be black trunks with red intials, black kneepads and these boots with the great robe Mattel made All that said, these figures hiting Ebay makes me think what's done is done. I do hope we see an ELITE Royal Rumble Flair [minus the robe] with a Winged Eagle belt down the road.

WrestleWar 1989 Flair vs Steamboat looks right to me. Hair seems to be on point too.

You're right, I was looking at the boots the whole time and didnt realize the RF on the trunks were (what it appears to be) Navy Blue. The other other matches I know he wore the attire off the top of my head were Clash of Champions vs Funk & Wrestle War '89...but neither boots match (nor do the robes)
