I went through the usual stages - "I won't buy it its the same as last year" - "Maybe I'll get it for Christmas" - "Oooh its only £20 on Amazon, I'll get that now!"
Its great as always. Will tell you about my first season at MUFC.
Man U are definitely overrated on this game - its the squad players in particular. Fellaini is the worst though, he's rated as highly as Carrick and is excellent I decided I wanted to play a narrow diamond formation (so 1 dcm 2 cm 1 acm)with no wingers because ours are so sh*te. I sold Anderson for £11.5m to Zenit, Macheda for £2m to Watford and Buttner for £4m to Blackburn to boost my transfer kitty. I shopped around for a cm with my £35m budget but the market was just like real life i.e. highly saturated and no value. I ended up buying Khedira for 22m, and then wasn't sure what to spend my last £13m on. A scout then recommended De Rossi so I went to make a bid and luckily the 'Interact with Board' option came up, and I managed to convince them to buy him for me for £19m, £6m over my transfer budget. My team then looked like this:
I walked the league. As I said my squad was really strong so I rotated a lot, to the point where Hernandez managed to be my top scorer for the season despite not being in my best XI. I got a relatively easy draw in the CL groups too so that helped. My defence was obscenely good with De Rossi being a major factor, and Vidic is always unreal on these games (I ended up conceding 8 PL goals all season). All my main title challengers were in shocking form (particularly City and Liverpool, both of whom sacked their managers before Christmas) so it was easy for me to get a great lead in the league. The CL was kind too - Galatassary in the last 16, CSKA Moscow in the last 8, Chelsea in the last 4 (they were struggling for top 4 at this point so not an overly daunting prospect). Because of the paucity of the English league this meant that it took me until the CL final (having already done the double) to actually face a top team - FC Bayern. I was really nervous because I didn't know how my boys would shape up against a top team, but the rearguard again led the way as I won 1-0 with a 6th minute Kagawa goal.
The final PL table looked like this:
1. MUFC
2. Arsenal (some way off both us and Everton)
3. Everton
4. Spurs
5. Chelsea
6. Cardiff
7. Stoke
8. Southampton
9. Newcastle
10. Liverpool
11. Man City
12. Swansea
13. Hull
14. West Brom
15. Crystal Palace
16. Aston Villa
17. Fulham
18. West Ham
19. Sunderland
20. Norwich
As you can see Liverpool and City were shocking in particular (although City got to the Europa League final before losing to Valencia). Elsewhere PSG, Bayern and Real walked their leagues. Tata was sacked in November because Barca were 6th, Klopp came in and got them to 2nd and CL semis. I was gutted - if they'd missed out on CL I would've come in for half their team.
City's poor form last season has meant that Silva, Toure, Negredo and Aguero all want out. I don't need Toure or Negredo, and I really wanted Kompany but he was happy to stay. I have however put bids in for Silva and Aguero at their asking prices of £28m... City keep rejecting me but no one else seems to want them so I'm hoping I can at least get Aguero before the window closes (about to play the Community Shield). They've already signed Cavani for £65m to replace him as well.
The 2nd season also seems to have a few bargains crop up - Barca had signed Sven Bender under Tata for £20m but got under 20 games all season and was on the transfer list for £5m come summer 2014. My cm is already stacked, but this was too good an opportunity to miss, so I signed him up. Schurle was also on the transfer list for £10m, and Torres is on there for about £3m. The City players are obviously bargains too, but they're loath to sell to me and no one else wants them for some reason, apart from Negredo who went to PSG for £8m. Valdes is without a club too - I'd sign him as back up but I can't be bothered to pay his wages.
I also signed Luke Shaw as he's rated 5* potential - Southampton originally wanted £40m but I beat them down to £22m. I then managed to mug Monaco into giving me £19.25m for Fabio, so Shaw almost paid for himself. Juventus and Real Madrid are desperately bidding for Rafael (they've offered £35m) but I keep refusing. I'm desperately trying to sell Young (had him listed for over a year, value gone down from £11m to £5m) and Lindegaard (I was happy to leave him as DDG's back up but he wants first team football) but no one is interested.
Overall I'd recommend it, its a fun game that will probably ruin your life as always. The main changes are mostly transfers - they can be done real time now and the market is inflated just like real life. The 3D match engine is also improved apparently but it crashes my laptop so I use the 2D one.
Anyone else got this?
