Is there a type of wire out there that actually looks like a fence? Like, that diamond shape.

I stand corrected. The twist/bread ties work INCREDIBLY well for making barbed wire. I just made some about 10 minutes ago, and it looks like real barbed wire. It sounded dumb to me too, but it really does work.
Just so you know, it's easier to use the ones that are coated in plastic. Just cut two small slips on each side -- you have to do it fairly close to the edge AND make sure not to squeeze too hard -- and just slide it off. The ones covered in paper are too much of a hassle. Trust me, you don't want to mess with it.

craft wire. It comes in spools (which look like a spool of barbed wire) for about $2, and each spool has enough to make a TON of barbed wire weapons, and to do barbed wire ropes on a RSR. You can find these at Wal*Mart or any craft stores. Just go to the craft section and ask for "steel gage wire". You'll want the smallest gage they have, for easier bending. It doesn't have barbs on it, but if you cut it into small sections, and then twist it back together, it has a legit sharp barb to it.
If I am not too busy tommorrow, I'll take some pictures of the wire, the spools, and a few of the weapons I have made, just to show you how good it looks.
