I've used primarily Apple Barrell a lot because it is cheap and there are a lot of colors. I would suggest it for starting. Plus, it is reasonably thick so it is easy to use and can be watered down. The major problem with it is that you HAVE to seal it or it scrapes and peels off really easily.
I just got Testors acrylic recently, and I like it much better. You don't have to seal it and it isn't sticky. I didnt think it took as many coats as Apple Barrell either. As H2RX said, it is really thin and watery though. I got gloss, which isn't sticky after it dried, but it is super shiny (of course), which I don't particularly like.

Get the Tamiya Acrylic. Enamels are made for models made out of harder plastic than the plastic on figures. Tamiya makes a good fleshtone, I forgot the exact name of it though. Arrgh. The lady told me that tamiya only makes enamel... Grrr!! What people do to get a sale.

Any suggestions for sealer? I'm using some Delta and it's usually gummy feeling. Like if the legs rubs the crotch piece, the sealer will rub. Not sure if anybody knows what I'm saying, heh.
Becca, you suck (mainly cos I'm the only person to ever like the Office, note my avatar, haha) but I'm totally stealing your sig and putting it up on my myspace, haha.

I use the acrylic sealer Nick. It isn't "gummy" when it dries. It still doesn't seal well within the joints though. I haven't found a sealer that can seal paint in the joints yet.

A discussion on paint never becomes meaningless.. hell 65% of the questions on this board are about paint.

With joints, you can use super glue, but you have to be very careful to not let them dry glued, brush on super glue is awesome for this.. I use this stuff:

Are Games Workshop or Vallejo paints any good for figure painting purposes?

Are Games Workshop or Vallejo paints any good for figure painting purposes? If it's Acrylic paint then it's good for painting figs. If it's enamel, I suggest to stay away from it because enamel paint takes longer to dry.

I've heard about there being some sort of sharpie brand water based pens or something along those lines to use for details and trunks and what not, anyone have any to recommend? I'm working on Sydal and Jacobs right now and they would be very helpful

I only have seen black and white though. it's fine point, oil-based, opaque paint marker. I got mine at a Hobby Store.
