Please Mattel do something about the Elite packaging
I am in North Carolina, and in about every other Wal Mart / K Mart you go in there is an Elite figure of some sort with an old Jakks figure inside or something missing (ie belts, etc). I mean its pretty simple to cut the tape and open and tape it it right back up. This is a huge problem in my area. Any plans on improving this?

If they were to release a tamper proof package it would raise the price higher.

Why not seal them like basics or like McFarland figures. Really that much price difference. Guess they don't care about theft?

If they were to release a tamper proof package it would raise the price higher. Would it? Dont get me wrong I like the looks of the Elite packages but we dont really see many Basic or Legends swaps when they had the cheaper more standard "glued on" carding. JMO, but it looks like it would save on material cost.

People have been heating the glue for years....slicing the seems...swapping the figures and regluing them good as new. The only way would be to switch to the plastic packaging that you need to cut with a knife or scissors to open. (like the McFarlane Sports Pick)

I know you can swap a basic packaged figure but the way Elites are currently packaged an eight year old can carefully open and put another figure in and put a couple pieces of tape on and it looks like its never been opened. Ready to return. They need to do something

That may be but it's not an 8 year old doing it. It's adults and unless it is a sealed plastic case like they use on Mcfarlane's SP's or Neca Assassin Creeds figures that you actually have to cut the package apart they are going to swap figures.

(like the McFarlane Sports Pick) There's never going to be a full proof way to stop theft...I can open a McFarlane package and reseal it...but young or old, most people arent going to go to all the trouble to heat glue and reseal the package. Will some? Sure, but theft was nearly a problem back in the previous days with Jakks as it is now.

I've been saying for years that the plastic McFarlane style packaging is the way to go.

I've seen BPs taped up with the extra wide clear shipping tape. The figures were swapped and the tape went right across the front of the card.

I saw just as many Jakks CS and RA's with TTL and BCA figures that I have Mattel swaps. And just as many titles stolen as well. As long as there's scumb@gs out there we'll still see swaps and thefts.

I dont like the idea of this simply because I like to display my figures loose and keep the boxes. It breaks my heart having to destroy my basic packaging when opening them. I was unaware of any way around this..

I wish something could be done but it would only increase prices and I think we're already paying enough.

I think they especially need to improve the packaging for their toy belts. It looks good, but the belt can be easily ripped off. When i recently bought the mattel white IC title, i took it out of the packaging with ease without even having to cut anything or tearing the box apart. A good thing is that i also managed to put it back onto its packaging and it looks mint and unopened again..haha..

Mattel's packaging doesn't need improving cause people will steal no matter what. The Elite package is made to be closed back up which is a mistake but it doesn't change the fact that if the figure is wanted bad enough someone will find some way to swap or just flat out take it. I was at my local Walmart (Crestwood, IL) and they had a Ryback and Mahal 2 pack that had been ripped open and the figures were taken. That was just sitting on the shelf in plain site, so honestly the package doesn't matter in the end. People stealing figs or swapping them is all about how bad someone wants that figure, cause I haven't seen a McFarlane figure swapped or returned and I don't think that has anything to do with the package. McFarlane figs are for a much more specific type of collector and not for a kid who is looking for the new John Cena or WWE Championship belt.

Anyway, with regards to the switches and theft, it isn't exactly an issue here in Singapore. I think its not an issue for most of the other countries that sells these figures as well. Its always in the US right? I do not know why it happens frequently over there in the US... Absolutely ridiculous.

It's not nearly as frequent as some people make it out to be.

I think the packaging needs to be changed for sure, not because of the swaps (although they are stupid easy to do and it would dampen, but obviously not completely prevent, the theft) but because of how wasteful they are. I see figures the same size and larger in attractively packed boxes half the size. What they've done with the basics this year is fantastic, and cuts down on the amount of trash/recycling generated, but the Elites continue to be bulky rectangular 3/4 empty space wasters. Good riddance, I say.
