You can't trust price guides anymore. The market for sports cards is worse than it ever has been. Most people who deal or used to deal with them, have stacks of cards that used to be considered rare or valuable, and they can't unload them. Unless you have a very rare or vintage card, and then get it graded to a 9 or 10, you will be lucky to sell anything for pennies on the dollar.

People use Beckett, ebay, or just straight haggling to decide prices. Like Mike Trout now is worth more than anyone, his cards are so nuts its amazing, not as bad as the Jeremy Lin fiasco, but it all depends on timing too.

That spud Webb card is worth like, 10 cents You'd be hard pressed to find anyone to give you .01 for it. To be honest, almost anything from 1988-1995 is mostly worthless, except for the occasional card, which usually isn't worth more than a few bucks. There are a few sets from that era like 1989 Score Football and 1992 Bowman Baseball that have some valuable rookies in them. But to be honest, it sounds like your dad just has a bunch of crap if a spud webb card is the highlight so far. Buy a beckett price guide, and go through the cards. Maybe you have a few diamonds in the rough, but it is the only way you'll really know what you have. We can't guess unless we know what cards specifically.

Cards are pretty crazy nowadays. People complain Jordan autographs are only worth $350+ on average and are willing to pay a couple hundred for random baseball players that 99% of the population have never heard of because they may be good someday.

Those super rare prospect cards are part of what killed the industry, along with grading and over saturation with too many sets from too many brands. I knew in 2000 when I saw people buying packs, and throwing away the cards in the pack if they didn't get a rare insert card, that the hobby was dead.

Its a shame what happened to the Hobby. Just got saturated, and too many special cards. Ebay also killed the prices. Use to you had to go to a store, find a card and pay book value.
