I've owned Dusty's dvd set for a few years now but I just got around to watching the matches/promos.
I just gotta say.... his promos are....... odd. Almost Warrior like, he gets done talking and I'm like "What did he just say?" Lol
Anyone else feel this way?

Yes I do lol.
I never understood why people hated his Polka Dots either, I loved them, his look is much more interesting with polka dots rather than standard black trunks.
THWEET THAPHIRE.

I honestly don't get the love for Dusty Rhodes.
Maybe its because I didn't grow up watching NWA in the 70s-80s but looking back I can even respect guys I missed like Nick Bockwinkel and others.
However, with Dusty...I just don't get it. Never have and probably never will.
That's just me though.

He wasnt a flashy guy like Flair, he wasnt a brutal wrecking machine like the Road Warriors he was just Dusty Rhodes an average guy making a living. That combined with his (for a guy his size) GREAT talent made him a star.

Its the same way people root for the Steelers in football, because they represent the steel workers of American, not like a "corporate" american team like Dallas or NY....Dusty represented the average Joe

I understood Dusty. He was one of the best and I totally understood Warrior's promos and don't get why people did not understand them. Warrior once said only his Warriors understood the promos I guess I am one of his Warriors.

I can understand why people were behind Dusty. I get that totally.
I'm just not a fan. He does nothing for me. I enjoyed Dustin's run as Goldust and Cody much more than their father.

Personally, Dusty is my favorite talker of all time. He came across with sincere emotion, something that I greatly miss.

Yes I do lol. I never understood why people hated his Polka Dots either, I loved them, his look is much more interesting with polka dots rather than standard black trunks. THWEET THAPHIRE. I grew up with the WWF Dusty and still love that character to this day. To a kid it was a combination of a cool guy with awesome dance moves, a lady to compliment him his style, promos that get the fans into the product and the theme music. Without the theme music Dusty wouldn't be able to do his dance moves before at the Hall of Fame like his own or before the Horsemen were introduced. Dusty is serious when he needs to be but overall a fun guy like with the "Ultimate Woyuh Thuck Cuuuup" or "He got a bythicle." Dustin might not be consider great as his father be he sure got over on his own and helped usher in the attitude era. I just watched a little of the DVD a few nights ago mostly to remember the fun of the 1989-1990 run (by late 1990 and he stayed into January 1991 he wasn't as fun anymore). The funniest part is his wife saying Dusty said "my son is wearing a dress" when he first saw Goldust which is translated into "mah thun is wearing a dresth." Now I think Dusty should have worn more than just the regular black/yellow outfit, like the red/yellow dots outfit shown a few times on the DVD or his tie die sleeveless shirt to give more variety. And what makes him awesome is that he is the common man. We like larger than life wrestlers like Hogan or Cena or Billy Graham or extraordinary talents like Michaels or Hart or Steamboat but seeing Dusty with his out of shape, never seen a gym body and his real life like promos were something special. I personally think Dusty missed his mark, I think he could captivate a whole country no matter their politics and become President.

I enjoy his more serious promos a lot more than the ones where he's real over the top and comical.

Someone name the person who Dusty modeled his promos after, he was a black wrestler and the name escapes me The name you are trying to remember is Thunderbolt Patterson. He managed Ice Train in WCW in early 1993. I never cared for Dusty Rhodes, and I always enjoyed when his friends would turn on him like Barry Windham did, and joined the Horsemen. And I never got behind Dusty cause it made no sense for a fat white guy from Texas to be speaking jive talk.
