I'm watching his doc on Netflix and he was eliminated from the Rumble, but he got back in without the refs seeing and tossed Bret Hart out and eventually won it, but he fought Bret at WM that year and the Hitman didn't have the belt. Why didn't he have a title match after winning the Rumble?

Storyline wise I'm pretty sure it had to do with the way Austin "won" the Rumble. He was eliminated, came back in and threw out Bret, Vader and Taker. Technically he didn't win. Bret was the rightful winner and supposedly going to face Shawn at Mania. The WWF Title was vacated by HBK when he got hurt, so they did a Fatal Four Way Title match at the PPV after the Royal Rumble where Austin was in/got his shot, along with Bret, Taker and Vader. The winner faced Sid the next night. Sid def. Bret with Austin's help and we're off and running with Bret/Austin.

This has been asked before and it's kind of long winded but...
Austin won the Royal Rumble and the following month HBK gave up the title because he "lost his smile".
This led to a Final Four match with Austin against Taker, Bret and Vader who were the three guys Austin ILLEGALLY eliminated from the Royal Rumble. The match was originally supposed to determine the number 1 contender at Mania since Austin cheated but instead ended up being for the title since Shawn lost his smile.
Bret Hart won and faced Sid the next night on Raw. Austin cost Bret the title to Sid.
From there, Bret faced Sid in a steel cage re-match for the title on Raw. If Bret won, he'd face Austin for the title at Mania. If Sid won, he'd face Taker for the title at Mania.
Austin and Taker interfered. Taker slammed the cage door on Bret's head and Sid won.
This led to Sid vs. Taker at Mania for the title and Bret vs. Austin at Mania in one of the greatest matches of all time.
End.

not exactly on topic but God damn for years now i have wanted to get this off my chest. FAKE DIESEL WAS IN THE FINAL FOUR OF THE ROYAL RUMBLE AND WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE FINAL FOUR MAIN EVENT!. This is the greatest injustice in the wwe ever.

End. pretty much all of this...Gorilla Monsoon came on Raw the next night and said that,even though Austin was technically the Rumble winner, he wasn't getting the automatic title shot due to the way he "won" , leading to the Final Four match to determine the TRUE WM shot winner...until things with Michaels went south,and EVERYTHING changed! |
