Late 1993 saw Hasbro release their 11th Series of WWF figures, dubbed the "Yellow" Carded Series. The assortment was asst. 7278, and consisted of the following figures: Razor Ramon, Nailz, Crush, Owen Hart, Shawn Michaels and Kamala. Here is a typical cardback from this series: It must have been a confusing time at Hasbro as they were not sure what mold to use on Shawn or what spray op to use on Kamala. Below is the sketch for Shawn Michaels: Next is Kamala's, no mention of what should go on his stomach here: Strange that the cardback up above does have him shown with his moon. Even stranger, is that the front of Kamala's package has his moon as well. Hasbro did correct their mistake and supposedly 12 to 24 carded samples of Kamala with moon were produced for internal purposes. How many were really made ? How many still exist in the package ? How many still exist at all ? Over the past decade I am aware of only 2 legitimate samples. The own that was won on ebay and the seller tried to resell recently and my own. Mine was bought back when Hasbros were still in production. Here is a pic of 1 of my 2 "Hasbro Holy Grails": How can you tell if you are looking at a legitimate Kamala w/moon MOC or a custom ? 2 dead giveaways are: A) a price tag or price tag residue - Duh ?, it was never at retail, so why would there be a price on it. B) there is a fairly large white import sticker on the cardback - it was never shipped around the country or out of the country. Other obvious signs I didn't list are: a sloppy looking moon, torn blister, fuzzy pic, etc. I hope that we can get some more insight on this set from you collectors out there. If not, let's start the rumor mill going on the Kamala.

Hey Stephen, I don't see the sketch
Interesting that the punch Shawn made it all the way to proto stage, even on the cardback aswell in the mold. I would've much prefered that and then later release te black/silver HBK in the double axe handle
EDIT: Also, is Crush in that proto black and yellow as opposed to purple and yellow? That woulda been better aswell

Sorry for the slow pic loads. Darn tinypic.com is taking forever. It ddin't help that I'm rewriting this post as my original was lost when my computer froze up.

Sorry but the colors are yellow and purple, just the shading from my scanner. Black and yellow would look better but sadly Crush did wear those colors. Man what happened to the good old Demolition days outfit ?

Cool, Thanks again, IMO that owen head looks way better hand painted. I just might have to do that for myself..... I'm assuming that kamala you have pictured is the legit one, I was under the impression that the "legit" kamala had the moon more on the right side then in the middle of his belly, Is that inaccurate?

good to see a real moon Kamala.
how many of these pre-production sketches do you have? They are almost as intriguing as the actual figures sometimes. That Kamala without facepaint bares a striking resemblance to Abdullah the Butcher.

Very nice as usual... I'd also love to hear any info on that orange card series when you are done with these! Also, what piece is your other holy grail? Dusty or Bret presumably???

This has to be one of my favorite hasbro sets. I was acutally looking foreword to seeing the sketch for HBK, I find it interesting that in the sketch they reused a complete virgil body, but in the pics they used a virgil torso with bret hart legs... Also Owens legs are obviously not the same as the production release, my question is are the proto legs a rehash of an earlier mold or were they going to be all new???
Oh and to end speculation I think the second "Grail" is his carded Bret Hart Mailaway, that is just like the one pictured in the ad for the mailaways.

Sorry not to reply until now. Home computer is messed up so unfortunately no topic for the upcoming week. Quick replies here:
The one pictured is legit. The moon is almost centered around the belly button. The pic looks a little off as the package is angled from the protective case it's in.
Quite a few, but not the whole run. I'll probably wind up posting the rest from time to time on the forum.
Yes, you are correct. Many older members remember my posting it before. When I do the red set, I'll have pics of the loose Bret and carded one(with different wrist tape).
Thank you all for your input, great to see so many comments! Take care til next time.
