ok folks so here it is.....the burning question....just who WAS better?
1)this is based on their in ring abilities and match quality.
2)no need to tell people here to keep it civil-but both men have staunch supporters here, which is fine but things can overheat.please respect the opinions of others.
I thought about this HARD today.I went back and forth several times.....and couldnt make up my mind.then I decided to judge it on who had the greater amount of matches I enjoyed.
so my vote goes to Angle but VERY narrowly.
yes it can be argued he had the better talent pool to work with but they did share some opponents too albeit at varying stages of their careers.
what say you folks?

I dont understand the comparison really because while they're both considered "technical" wrestlers...they're styles are really nothing a like. It would be like comparing Hulk Hogan to Billy Graham. If you want to compare take downs, suplexes, and other amatuer moves...You have to go Angle. if you're going actual pro wrestling moves like leg sweeps, drop kicks and submission holds (that clearly dont hurt) then you take Bret.

I'm huge fans of both guys but I have to go w/ Angle, but just slightly. Both are the two greatest technical wrestlers of all time, but I feel that Angle's move set was more varied because he was able to do some areal moves that Bret wasn't. I feel that Bret's charisma is also highly underrated, but that Angle has more charisma. His character was more varied, and he went from the dorky rookie in 2000, to the US Hero in 2001, to the badass Olympian from 2002-2005, to the wrestling machine from 2006-present.
Both are legends and top 10 pro wrestlers of all time IMO, but Angle gets the slight nod. But both have never had a bad match IMO.

Bret Hart.
or...Bret "Hitman" Clark depending on where you're from.

Angle for me, he had more of a character and more charisma so his storylines -- and therefore his matches -- were easier to get invested in.

I have to stick with the Hitman. This obviously can't be quantified, but I personally think Bret's persona and character had so much more impact on the industry. Angle is amazing, and really took to the art of pro wrestling. Angle's character got stale in my opinion, but I never felt that with Bret. I think Hitman's psychology was better too. I'd LOVE to see Bret vs. Angle, but I would also love to see Bret vs. Punk.
As far as Angle vs. Bret I ultimately made my decision based on HBK. Which feud/match up was better in my eyes? HBK vs. Hart or HBK vs. Angle? This is one common opponent who is also top 5 IMO. A great way to compare.

I would probably go with Anlge but by a small margin. Angle is a whole different breed than Bret though imo. They are both insanely talented at what they do. I think Angle has more charisma and personality than Bret, which is a big part of me giving him the slight nod. I think with Bret, I tend to sit back and go, "awesome match." With Angle, on my the edge of my seat going, "Holy shit, awesome match." So I just think Angle's whole demeanor and intensity did more for me as a fan.

I'd go with Angle. Bret was great in the ring, but I found Angle way way more entertaining.

Angle is in my top 10, but Bret is in my top 5.
I'm going with The Hitman on this one.

Ameutur Wrestling -Angle Pro Wrestling - Bret Hart
but if you were to take both of them, in their prime, in an hour long ironman match, you got yourself a match of the millenium.

I think Angle edges Hart out.
The guy is just the complete package. Excellent wrestler with charisma and mic skills to match his in ring ability.
I really would love to see him have one last run with the WWE before he hangs em up.

Angle, on the other hand, could put anyone on his back and carry them to a great match. Very few wrestlers can do that. Whether he was working with Big Show or Rey Mysterio (polar opposites in style), the match would always be great. Moreover, Angle could be intimidating, snarky, goofy, or outright hilarious on the mic. He had it all.

Yeah hart was always usually more staright laced where angle flowed seemingly between comedic and serious..and angle post hair shave just had this intensity that i dont see in many wrestlers

A great way to compare. Im inclined to think HBKs matches with Angle were far superior to Brets outings with HBK. but then again Im not a fan of the Iron Man match and am constantly confounded by its booking. Austin was another common opponent of course.....but I enjoyed Brets 3 PPV matches with him better than Angles.

This is indeed difficult.
While I give Angle the nod for actual technical ability, I give Bret the nod for overall combination of Mic skills and in-ring presence.
In the end, it's all about being an all around entertaining wrestler and with that being said have to give it Bret.
Bret Hart was solid both in a Tag Team and as a Singles Wrestler. He had the ability to make you fee bad for him and then want to spit at him , all within a 10 minute promo.
Angle has an intensity to him, but he just can;t compare to the overall wrestler that is Bret Hart.
And for the record, I am not the biggest Bret fan, but greatness needs to be recognized.
