I'm sure most of you have heard about the prequel to Watchmen that will be released this summer, and I was just wondering everybody's thoughts are. I really don't know what to think. Part of me has been wishing for a prequel since I read the original, but deep down, I know this is a bad idea. I'll wait to actually read it to make my final judgment, but as of right now, I have no clue what I think. What about you guys? Here's a link just in case anybody wants more information: dcu.blog.dccomics.com/2012/02/01/dc-entertainment-officially-announces-%E2%80%9Cbefore-watchmen%E2%80%9D/

I'll probably end up reading it but I think it is unnecessary.

I have my issues with the project but honestly it has been long enough for any new Watchmen comics to not tarnish the original.

The creative teams are amazing, and Alan Moore is only a sacred cow in his own twisted, narcissistic mind. I don't have any problems with this.

I loved the original. I was probably too young to be reading it when it came out but I bought it and took them to class for Everybody Reads on Wednesdays at my middle school. I felt like I was getting away with something as my comic had nudity and a LOT of violence and blood and the teacher never knew.
IF it has the same feel, I will love it.

I just saw some promotional pictures and I already feel nervous and my goodness if they screw this up the backlash itself could really hurt the company

Bumped because the first issue, Minutemen #1, is coming out tomorrow. Anyone going to get it? I know I will.

Read through the first issue. It was not bad but not all that great. It will cost $140 to read all the issues in the "Before Watchmen" series and from what I saw here that is a bit much.

Minutemen was a great kick-off. The way my LCS does pulls, they pull the first issue of a new series for you, then you can elect as it comes out whether to add the entire series or not. Minutemen is definitely going to be a keeper.
I'm anticipating for certain that I'll wind up keeping Rorschach, The Comedian, and likely Dr. Manhattan. I've still pulled Nightowl, Silk Spectre, and Ozymandias to give them a shot.
If this first look is indicative of the series as a whole (I'm already excited at the prospects of the other creative teams), then I see this whole idea as a very likely success.

In fact, I think he was against the entire project. I picked up Minutemen last week but I haven't found time to read it. Not sure if I'm going to get Silk Spectre, but I'll definitely be getting The Comedian next week.

So I guess Blake was the Kennedy's personal lap dog and had to be sent on a low-rent mission so some mysterious power could kill John Kennedy. Something tells me this series is going to be about lake finding out who killed Kennedy and getting disgusted with America leading into the Nam stuff seen in Watchmen. Not the most exciting storyline but it has promise.

So is this series any good or just ok? I feel like across the board, there's a miniseries for everyone in this thing. Rorschach is going to be the most popular to the Joe Everybody fan. No reason it shouldn't be - issue one is out today, it was fantastic, and the team of Azzarello/Bermejo is top notch. Nite Owl and Minutemen have both been fantastic, two issues in. I've also enjoyed Silk Spectre and the Comedian - the former, rather than the latter. If there is a weak link so far, it'd be Ozymandias, and its still a really strong weak link. Issue one was terrific. I'd check it out. I think that long run, the payoff will be worth the cover price.

So is this series any good or just ok? Minute Men has been average, Silk Spectre has been average, The Comedian has been average, Ozymandias has been below average (Lee on art has made it worth while), Nite Owl has been well above average as was Rorschach. Overall it has been okay to read but nothing overly special or memorable.
