Watched the 2001 Rumble the other night, and it got me wondering, why was Kane not pushed more after the event? He had a dominant performance, was the last man eliminated, seemed very over, but come WrestleMania he was in a Hardcore title match with Big Show and Raven. Seemed to me it was a lost opportunity to really push Kane hard in the main event.

He got pushed later that year when he and Undertaker were feuding with the Power Trip of HHH and Stone Cold. He even beat HHH in a pretty good chain match for the IC title which he ended up losing to...Albert.
I agree though. I often wish Kane would have won the 2001 Rumble.

That's the same thing I was thinking. I personally think he should of won that rumble, or at least gotten a bigger push when he still had the mask.

Good topic. They pushed him...aside. I mean come on he eliminated what 11-12 guys in that match and was the last eliminated and went to mid card status.

They really didn't know what to do with him after that. I remember at the next ppv he was a face again, tagging with Taker against Dudleys and E&C in a triple threat tag match for the titles. Then he gets put into the Hardcore Title match at Mania (though he did win it, but that's not saying much when that belt is concerned.)

I love the finish of the 2001 RR.Austins blood saokaed victory is one of my faves EVER so I dont wish he won it BUT I do wish he had done something more after this.
sadly Kane was an upper level Jobber for nearly the entirety of his career.all you have to do is look at his top level feuds.....he lost virtually all of them.including "Shane O Mac" being amde to look his equal.something his career NEVER recovered from.
what an absolutely DISGUSTING ego trip from the McMahons.

I think the whole purpose of booking Kane like they did in the Royal Rumble was to make Austin look like that much more of a bad a$$ when he fought through his injuries and beat him. I don't think there was ever any plans of pushing Kane after the Rumble.
That is, until the Two-Man Power Trip angle with Triple H and Stone Cold.

He was in a comfortable position at the top of the midcard with 'Taker throughout 2001.

He did get a big win over HHH at Judgement day 2001, but once the Invasion storyline began, Kane seemed to get lost in the shuffle. Had the Invasion angle not happened, Kane MIGHT have been given one PPV match w/ Austin where a heel Austin went over.
Kane has and always will be a jobber to the stars. The guy was over big a few times in his career, but a combo of injuries and other's egos(HHH and the Katie Vick storyline, Shane McMahon) ruined his chances of being a top guy.

well there wasn't to much to push him after RR...Austin Rock was the obvious big match going into Mania, and shortly after began the Invasion
