Chris Jericho: Past & Present

I apologize in advance for posting this thread here, but I am doing so because it is relevant to past events and also...I know that my fellow Historians here can discuss and digest certain aspects of the sport better than some in the current thread section.

That being said, I was not surprised at the manner in which Jericho returned last night. As a huge Y2J fan, I have read his books (great reads BTW) and he has said on more than occasion that he always wants to come back in a better, more original fashion. He has made it a point to state that he has to improve and be original when he creates a new gimmick, returns from hiatus etc. He has also stated that when it's his time to go, he will so without celebration..a statement that makes me repsect him all the more.

I love the fact that he works the IWC..I love the fact that he makes me wonder about when he is shooting and when he is working...a talent most lack these days.

Knowing that he was coming to WWE back in the day as well as his return to "Save Us" a few years back, I have to say I was still giddy and marking out like a fan should.

This isn't the place to discuss his current storyline return, but I am not surprised in the least in how he came back. It totally fits Y2J's character.

How many more years do you see CJ having?

Do you feel he can still be a relavant player today and in the foreseeable future?

I think Jericho has paved the way for many of todays Heels and has been copied by many. Providing his heath holds up and he can maintain the right physique, I think he can go another 3 years or so as a Main Event player in the same capacity HBK did.

before I satrt on retro Y2J its pretty obvious he was just playing the crowd last night and is going heel next week/shortly.

always liked Jericho.....thought he was great when he debuted9in style) and WWE made the right choice turning him face when they did in 2000.

heres some things its a pity about though

he should have been the guy to betray Team WWF @ Invasion 2001.it would have been a PROPER springboard for him and Ill tell ya this he would have been seen differently and maybe people would have gave a crapwhen HHH beat him @wm18.

his run as Undisputed champ was a miserable failure.

his victory night was well handled and a savvy piece of booking but when he ran into HHH(like so many others subsequently would discover)he was made to look like a in clown.

the feud running into WM18 was HHH vs Stephanie with Jericho well on the sidelines.by the time WM came around nobody cared and that was reflected in the(red hot)Toronto crowds reaction to the match

but summer 2002 would be a different affair for Jericho......sucess and seriousness/credibility returned to him and would remain there until his departure in 2005.some great feuds and partnerships there in that period.

when he returned in 2007 he just didnt seem to fit a face personality....I credit it to the short hair personally and whn they turned him heel on HBK in that great slow burn the magic returned again.

tragic what happened to the undisputed tag run with Edge-to say they were dynmaite together was un understatement.......dont understand what happened with the Edge feud either.holy crapon paper that was hot stuff.

I was a HUGE Y2J fan during his first WWF/E run from 1999-2005. The guy was one of those rare talents who was not only better than 99% of the roster in the ring, but also better than 99% of the roster on the mic as well. He was the total package IMO, but sadly, Triple H always seemed jelous of Jericho's potential and popularity, and squashed him whenever he could. Seriously, in over 10 years w/ the WWE, Jericho never once got a win over Hunter(his one win for the WWF Title in 2000 was overturned). His Undisputed Title run was ruined because Triple H was jelouse of him. From 2002-2003 on Raw, Jericho was stuck in the #2 heel role because Hunter, again, didn't want to let him get a chance to shine above him. Besides for his one-sided feuds w/ Hunter, I loved his first run w/ the company, especially his work w/ The Rock and Christian.

I didn't like his second run from 2007-2011. I know he was trying to re-invent himself, but his character was bland and was just like any other boring heel IMO. He was still great in the ring, but his character sucked. As for last nights return, it was a waste of time IMO. Coming out and just playing to the crowd for 15 minutes was a waste of good time for a match. Its obvious that hes gonna turn heel next week to start a feud w/ Punk after the Rumble, but they could have done last night's return in simply 5 minutes rather than the 10-15 minutes that it took up.

As for how long he has left, I'd say that this is going to be his last run on a full time schedual. I feel like we'll always see Jericho pop up here and there for a match or two once in a while, but after another year or two, he'll be gone from the full time schedual for good.

I've always been a huge fan of Jericho. I did get a little tired of the heel persona from the last run, so I hope this time it's different.
